Gord Richardson

January 26th, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved husband, son, brother, and great “dog-father” through a tragic accident.   He leaves behind his loving wife Shannon, his devoted pets Chevy and Nova, parents Mike and Barb, his brother Greg, and sister Courtenay, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Gord was born in New Westminster in1986.  He grew up enjoying an amazing variety of sports and other outdoor activity, and he excelled at most of these – hockey, soccer, baseball, mountain-biking, BMXing, 4x4ing, quading, camping, fishing, watersports, and snowboarding.  Gord was the classic and classy handyman.  He was knowledgeable and skilful at repairing and rebuilding  cars and trucks.  He started in the work force in the construction field and then moved into a welding career.   His first welding job was at Columbia Remtec, building tanker-trailers.  From there he moved on to a position with Q-tech, which involved a lot of contract work for BC Ferries at the Tsawassen Terminal.   This eventually led to a full-time position at BC Ferries in both welding and millwright work.  He loved his job at BC Ferries and planned to stay there for the long haul.

Gord graduated from Semiahmoo Senior Secondary School in 2004.  Three years later he completed his apprenticeship as a journeyman welder.  He was three-quarters of the way to becoming a journeyman millwright as well when his ambitious, busy, and productive life was so tragically cut short.  Nine months ago Gord and Shannon bought a five-acre property in East Langley, and with much help from friends had made excellent  progress in developing its great potential.

There will be a celebration of Gord`s life on Saturday, February 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Peace Portal Alliance Church, 15128 27B Avenue in Surrey.  Gord`s family (except for the dogs!) will be there to meet guests at 11:00.   Instead of flowers, Gord would appreciate donations on his behalf to the SPCA.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence on the family online register.

Messages:

So sad that Gord was taken from loved ones all too soon in life. May memories help heal their wounds and prayers that we are all truly joined as one be answered.

You will be in our Hearts and Thoughts forever. Until we meet again.

Our deepest sympathy to the Richardson family. Somehow, it seems so against nature" to have a young son pass away before his elders. In my family case, when my daughter died, Mike was there for me and my family and I trust and pray that if there is anything, anything at all that I can to do to ease your pain, please call upon me in this time of sorrow. Gord, may you rest in peace knowing that you shall meet your loved ones by and by.

RELUCTANT ANGEL Born reluctant angel, the kind that never part This world so-mad on broken things, and one of those is heart My hair was of a halo, with curls that came around My teeth were vermin beaver, white mikmac without ground My bro was born a sailor, who finally hit the shore I loved the way he had them wed, with sunlight on the floor My sis was born a priestess, to hear small hands in prayer With her I’ll share a world of good, though life just isn’t fair My rage was like a fire truck, to heat I stormed small might My father is a man to Love: he taught me fight for right My mom was ever with me and with her I will stay Remember mom, we just shift form - I’m not so faraway My job you said was take two worlds & weld them with an arc The morning’s dawn will call U on, though garages are dark My faith was DOG and freedoms’ reign, my doctrine is dead I liked this world but also knew a lot went off unsaid To Shannon, Love & Peace & Time Tear rivers through our land. I thank her for the smiles, the frown I’ll always hold her hand My name is Gordon Richardson Like light I’ll travel on But like the dark, I’ll hold on still Believe me, I’m not gone.

I was shocked and sadened to hear of Gordy's death. My condolences to the family and friends of Gordy's. I was Gordy's supervisor for three years before my retirement from BC Ferries. He was an excellent worker, very knowedgeable and self-motivating. When we talked he would often say "that's what my dad would say". He talked about his family and Shannon alot. He will be missed by family, friends and co-workers. Rest in Peace, Gordy. Roy

I'll always miss you buddy.

Gord worked for me for a short time and I was immediately impressed with his work ethic and enthusiasm. My deepest sympathies go out to the Richardsons and Shannon.

Met Gord when he started sharing rides with Chris. What a big hole he has left in our lives. He became a good friend in a very short time. He didn't waste time with anything I guess. Chris & Ann.

There will always be one bright star in the night sky shining for our dearest Gord, who will always be in our hearts.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Gord's tragic accident. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. Please know that our thoughts are with you.

He shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary him, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember him. -- adapted from a poem by Laurence Binyon
