Hendrik (Henry) Hogeterp Jr.
May 30th, 2013
After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, the Lord called our beloved Father, Opa, and brother home to be with Him at the age of 76. He is predeceased by his wife Rita (2012), and is survived by his children; Christina (Terence), Tim (Edna), his grandchildren Hanna, Kristen, Lucas, Mattias, and Elliott, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Henry was born in Sneek, The Netherlands, and was the second oldest of 11 siblings. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1952, and later moved to British Columbia as he had met Rita, the love of his life, through a Christian dating service. They were married January 05, 1973 and had 39 blessed years together.
The man before Alzheimer’s took hold, was very tall with a twinkle in his eye. He had big hands, a big laugh, and a big heart, and always putting others needs in front of his own. He loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, reading, traveling, gardening, pruning, and spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren! He loved his family greatly, and was a very devoted brother, husband, father, and Opa.
His lasting legacy is his faith in his Lord and service to others. While a piece of our hearts is broken, we are at peace knowing that he has been freed from his earthly body, and we will miss him tremendously.
A celebration of Henry’s life will be held at Immanuel Covenant Reformed Church 35063 Page Road, Wednesday June 05, 2013 at 1:00pm. Donations made the Alzheimer’s Society are appreciated.
You are invited to leave a fond memory or personal message of condolence for the family.
I just want to send my condolences to all of you, and pray that God will wrap His loving arms around you and give you comfort and strength. I loved how you came to visit your Dad at Menno, and sang with him and let your kids play the piano with him, that was sooo VERY special!! My Mom (Grace Ritzema) also LOVED it when you let her join you while you sang, played and prayed with your Dad. What a blessing it is to know that they (your Mom & Dad, as well as my Mom & Dad are all together now with the Lord singing and praising Him. If you would like i could send you a bulletin from Mom's Memorial Service too, I just need your email address. Blessings to all of you, Henrietta
