January 25th, 2013
Passed away January 25, 2013 at Brookside Lodge where she succumbed to her battle with diabetes. The family would like to thank the staff at Langley Hospital and Brookside Lodge for their care and compassion.
Mary was born in Winnipeg, 1926 and enjoyed all advantages that private girl’s boarding schools have to offer. She excelled at figure skating, often performing in shows and at times featured solo as a clown act. She loved to ride her horse and was an avid animal lover with always a cat or dog in her homes. She enjoyed the performing arts, was a voracious reader and an outstanding seamstress, She also enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting and all forms of knitting and won many awards for her knitting skills. With her military family background, she joined the army once out of school, as a jeep driver. In later years she began a 14 year career as a matron in a women’s prison and 10 years as a Canada Customs Officer. She finished her uniformed career with a short stint as a commissionaire. She enjoyed travel and many different foods and will be remembered for her unwavering pride and love of family. She saw only the good in a person with hardly an unkind word and lived her life with a positive, optimistic outlook.
She was predeceased by her first husband, her youngest son and her grandson Michael. She leaves behind her husband, Jimmy Jones, with whom she enjoyed many happy years of travel and fun. Mourning her also are her daughter and husband, son and his wife, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. We will all miss her bright and cheery greetings.
