Helen Christina Hammond
November 4th, 2014
We are saddened to announce the passing of Helen Christina Hammond a week after her 95th birthday. The night of November 3 was full of wind and rain. On the morning of November 4, as the sun began to shine, our dear mother passed into the arms of her Lord. The deep blue of her eyes dimmed as she said good-bye to this world and was lovingly welcomed into the next. Predeceased by parents Kristina (Moberg) and Halvor Halvorson, beloved husband Robert in 1988, brother Norris, sisters Bertha and Edna.
Helen was a born and bred "prairie girl" until 1942 when she followed her elder sister from Torquay, Saskatchewan to Vancouver. Marriage to Bob in 1947 was followed by an adventurous start in Port Alberni, then the arrival of daughters Roberta and Mari-Ann, and stints working at Woodwards, Eatons, and The Bay. She knew joy and heartache, but always with a profound sense of duty and hard work.
Helen's Christian faith was central to her being and her every day. She loved and appreciated the people in her church homes and her friends at Sharon Village and Langley Seniors' Village. She loved her family beyond measure. Grieving Helen's loss are her daughters: Roberta Gifford (Doug), Mari-Ann Reily (John), grandchildren: Julia Bennett (Mathew), Olivia and Scott Ogden, Leslie Anne Bennett, Liam Reily (Jennifer Morrison) and Nathaniel Reily, and greatgranddaughters Sofia and Emma Ogden. She will also be missed by much loved nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service to be held at Christian Life Assembly, 21277 - 56 Ave., Langley BC Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon or BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
