Aase Jensen
December 28th, 2014
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Aase on December 28, 2014.
Aase Jensen was born in 1931 in Kirke Stillinge, Denmark, to Richard and Ida Bjerrestrand (formerly Jensen), the second of 4 daughters, and grew up in Gørlev. After finishing school, Aase worked as a maid and a telephone operator in Copenhagen. At age 18, she met Kaj Jensen at a dance; they married in 1951 and immigrated to Toronto. Five years and two daughters later, they bought a VW van and headed west to BC. They found a piece of forest overlooking the Coquitlam River and built a house there with their own hands, creating the best possible childhood for their girls.
In 1967, the Jensens bought a house in West Vancouver. Aase worked by Kaj’s side in the family business and through many DIY renovations. She served with the Ladies Auxiliary to the Dania Home for over 25 years. She also enjoyed her bridge clubs and needlework groups, and she baked wonderful bread and buns. Over the years Aase made numerous voyages to Denmark and hosted visits from many Danish relatives.
Aase was healthy and fit most of her life. She went to yoga and other exercise classes and loved walking the Ambleside Seawall. In her later years, she beat breast cancer and other ailments while caring for Kaj at home. It was a massive stroke that took her from us so unexpectedly.
Aase is predeceased by her younger sisters Lydia and Hanne and survived by her elder sister Elly. She will be deeply missed by husband Kaj; their daughters Ann MacPherson (John) and Janet Marshall (Peter); grandchildren Dan MacPherson (Lindsay), Julia Green (Zane), Tara Bertrand (Josh), Ian MacPherson (Kristen), and Ryan Marshall; great-grandchildren Oskar, Sadie, Ivan, Ramona, Matilda, Atticus, and Ruben; and many other relatives and friends.
In accordance with Aase’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. We are grateful to Zane for handling the final arrangements with such care. Those desiring to make a donation in Aase's memory might consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Dania Home Residents Foundation.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
Messages:
Dearest the Jensen family. All my thoughts go to all of you with the best memories of my dearest cousin Aase. May she rest in peace. Love from Margit
We send our prayers and condolences to the all. We have memories - at various times over many years - of being with "Mrs. Jensen" at family events. She was such a gracious woman whose spirit of goodness and kindness touched us and many others. Her love of family, and especially her children and grandchildren, is a model to aspire to. Her smile brought sunshine. We have some sense of the heartache that you must feel, but do not know the sadness of such a sudden loss. And 2014 has been a difficult year for the MacPherson family. We will be thinking of you and send our love as you walk through each day ahead. May you know a sense of peace and grace and hope. Mia & Al

I'm really going to miss my graceful and loving Aunt. Dad has mentioned many times how she was more of a sister to him than a sister-in-law.
I'm so sorry to hear of my cousin Aase passing just 20 days after my hushand passed away. I had hoped to meet her one day since I had never seen her. I was just 1 year old when she immigrated to Canada. My mother told me that she saw me shortly after I was born. My condolences to Kaj and her family in Canada.
