Charles William (Bill) Gregson
December 2nd, 2015
Charles William (Bill) Gregson passed away quietly on December 2, 2015 at age 88 at Mayfair Care Home in Abbotsford.
Bill, son of Leonard and Elizabeth, a brother to Betty and Mary, was born in Preston, Lancashire in 1927. He was proud of his war service in the Royal Army Service Corps which was part of the British Army of the Rhine. Bill was apprenticed as a tool and die maker and joined the printing industry where he made his entire career.
In 1957 he took the greatest risk of his life, emigrating to Canada to “balmy Winnipeg” as the brochures had foretold, with 4 sons and pregnant wife Phyllis (nee Gaskell, 1929-1991). A decade in Winnipeg working for Toronto Type Foundry and Public Press was enough, and the family of now 6 boys moved to Vancouver where he joined Pacific Press and the Province Newspaper, working there until his retirement. Shortly after, Bill re-married to Mildred van Weringen (d. 2005).
Bill is proudly survived by his 6 sons, Andrew (Judith), Charles (Helen), Alan (Jean), Steven (Kristine), Terry(Dorothy) and Mark (Shelley), grandchildren Seth, Solina, Matthew, Luke and Shannon and 6 great grandchildren, Taylene, Liriel, Maesa, Kyah, Tristan and Vaida. Bill was strong, reliable, and a devoted family man who will be keenly missed but stoutly remembered.
At Bill’s request, his ashes will be scattered on the rose garden after a memorial at Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services® at 3070-275A St, Aldergrove, at 2 PM, on April 30, 2016. There will be a reception afterwards.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
