Devan Alexander Neil King-Peters

March 13th, 2015

Devan Alexander Neil King-Peters born in 1995 in Chilliwack, BC died far too suddenly on March 13, 2015.  Devan is survived by his mother, Mellisa King, his   father, Mark Peters and a very large and loving extended family that includes numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and his little sister Kaila.  Devan was a amazing young man whose heart was so big he couldn’t stand the thought of hurting another living thing.  He was artistic and a daydreamer.  Devan always wanted to help other people, he was very caring and often thought about how things that happened in world would affect other people. I remember when he was a little boy he asked me, "Momma if there was a zombie apocalypse who would help all the babies at the hospital?" His 10 year old self suggested we take over a Costco because of the large supply of baby products for all the little kids. He was totally serious. My son had the heart of a lion, he was a beautiful young man who has left a space that will never be filled. Devan always wanted to be a hero and help people, he never knew that just by being who he was, strong, humble, kind and loving that he was a hero to everyone who ever knew him.

Devan loved Turkey dinners all the fixings and Dairy Queen ice cream cakes...do not mess with his ice cream cakes or try to substitute them for a blizzard cake or something else he considered sub-standard!  He was quirky and funny and loved to make people laugh by being silly, especially to his little cousins!  Oh and he was patient with his Momma (mostly), nicknamed Nugget as a little boy he was called  that his whole life and he never complained (at least not to Mom).

Devan had many talents and interests and was very artistic at heart. He enjoyed film making, story writing, drawing, reading and listening to music. Following Grade 10 Devan and his friend Adam won a scholarship to the Gulf Island Film and Television School after winning the "Why Media Matters" contest that put them in competition against students all over the Lower Mainland.  The film they created while at GIFTS was later nominated for awards at the 2012 EyeLens Film & Animation Festival. In addition to exploring his creativity, Devan also loved to spend time with his family and friends, and especially enjoyed time outdoors hiking, camping with family, friends or just sitting outside around the campfire.

Devan started pre-school in Chilliwack, BC with his cousin Bradley, he then went to Evans Elementary, Langley Meadows Elementary and Hillcrest Elementary in Surrey, BC. Devan attended Clayton Heights Senior Secondary where he graduated Grade 12 in 2013.  He was scheduled to attend the University of the Fraser Valley in March 2015 to start the Welding Program.

Devan will be survived by his mother, Mellisa King, Ward, Cory and Delaney, his Nana Evelyn James, Auntie's Christina and Angela (Sheikhu) Uncles David (Dana) and Stephen (Drena), Cousins Brody, Bailey, Kalea and Qurra and many, many loving family and friends.

Devan will be survived by his father, Mark Peters, Shauna, and little sister Kaila.  Devan was pre-deceased by his grandmother Annette Peters, his Papa and his great grandmother Nora. He is survived by many Aunts and Uncles including Victoria, Norma (Bud), Phillip (Rhonda), Cookie (Donna), and cousins Shawna, Anthony, Leanne, Nicholas, William, Michael, Jeffery and Emily.

The loss of my sweet son Devan leaves a void not only in our family, but he was a sweet shining light of goodness in this world.  He had a smile that lit up the room, I loved to see him happy.  He was and always will be my heart and love.  Rest easy my sweet son, may God bless and protect you until I can.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
