Messages:
Marc was my son and it has been now over 2 years since his death. And it has not become easier to accept. But I do want to thank all of you for expressing you very kind thoughts and memories of Marc. You should know that he became all that I ever wanted of a son. I am very proud of him.
My deepest condolences to you all for the loss of a great man. I was fortunate to have Marc as my Instructor for the Surrey RCMP Auxiliary Constable training program in 2004. Marc was fun and shared a lot of his experiences with our troop that benefitted us greatly. I was unaware of his passing and I'm saddened to hear this news. I am sending prayers of healing and strength to you all. Kind Regards, Richard Pedersen
Kristi -- you may not remember our family from Yellowknife but here goes. I worked with your mom at the dental clinic in YK. for a few years. She called me "the cleaning lady. " Patients did not know what to expect. You and David were pals in pre-school, kindergarten in the "Teepee " when it was brand new with our daughters Cathy and Wendy. You kids were 5 years old. We left YK. in 1973 --did live in White Rock 1992 - 1998. We are so very, very sorry to hear of the loss of Marc - so wonderful to read of how much he was loved and appreciated by all. John and Mary Ann King
Dear Kristi and Family, I am so saddened to hear of this unexpected loss of fine man, not only to his family, but to his City and fellow officers. May the Lord touch you and keep you in perfect peace as you deal with this. While it is never easy to deal with...the memories are the legacy that he has left behind and it is my deepest desire that you will be able to smile one day and rejoice in them!
I was shocked to hear Marc was gone. I didn't know him well, but wanted to let you know he will be missed. So sorry for your loss.
I spent most of teens and twenty’s at the Searle house. I also was part of group of Ventures lead by David Searle. Marc was an integral part of this group of teenage boys who had the time of life’s spending the weekend camping and laughing so much so that most of us, Marc included, could not make it to school on Monday morning due to exhaustion. Lisa, Marc and I were inseparable during our UBC days and it was too bad that life got in the way as we saw less of each other through the years. I will never forget the special times with Marc - the fishing trip ( 30lbs salmon; no net) , the graduation – tuxedo with shorts , the camping trips, Hawaiian Holidays, the Searle pool parties ( 100 degrees), their wedding with the Mandau hospitality. We lost a great man on May 17th. My heart goes out to Lisa, Makena , Kai , Dax, David (Celia), Kristi, and the Mandau family.
Dear Lisa and Family We were shocked when we learned of Marc's untimely passing. I met Marc after I retired from the RCMP when he reached out to me to assist him during "Operation Remembrance" which resulted in the very moving ceremony at the Surrey Field of Honour. My wife Louise and I had the pleasure of meeting you and your young family that day. It was most evident that Marc was a very devoted husband, father and member of the Force. Marc then continued to research and locate unmarked graves of RCMP Veterans. Much of this time consuming work was accomplished during his off duty time. He often commented that his family committments came first and was apologetic for not having enough time to devote to this project. Needless to say, his efforts resulted in several unmarked graves being located and properly marked. We will all cherish many fond memories of him. Rest in Peace Marc.
It feels like most of my teenage years were spent at the Searle's home in Vancouver. We were a close group of friends. And in many ways, Marc was the heart. He was kind and self-confident, with a wicked sense of humor - which kept me in stitches most of the time. We saw less of each other as can happen when responsibilities such as families and careers come along, but whenever we met, it felt like time hadn't passed at all. Marc was an amazing man. And I'm proud to have had the privileged to call him friend. He will be missed.
Marc and I worked at Surrey Detachment together before I retired. He was a fine and dedicated RCMP officer. He was especially involved with Special Events hosted by the City of Surrey including the 2010 Winter Olympics Celebration Site at Holland Park. Marc had a great sense of humour and always found a way to lighten the mood during stressful times. Marc loved the Jamaican patties at these events and when things got stressful we would smile at one another and say " Brother, it's time for a pattie". That worked wonders in lifting our spirits, Rest in peace brother.
I was fortunate to serve with Marc as a volunteer at St. John Ambulance in Surrey. Thank you to Lisa and family for sharing this wonderfully gifted and energetic man with others in Surrey, to make our Community a better place. Craig Wilson, Past Chair, St. John Society, BC & Yukon
I met Marc as a Pathfinder. He was in the 81st (can't remember whether it was Rovers or Venturers). We spent a great deal of time, our Pathfinder group and his group - dances, Raven, Rovent, mud, cream pies in the face, hot tubs at Manning Park in the middle of Strawberry Flats, parties and the list goes on. Some of the happiest days of my life were spent with Marc and his friends. He was always hilarious, smart, and kind. Practical jokes all around! Although we didn't keep in touch, I am so sad to hear this very sad news. I send my condolences to all those who loved him so much. For the short time I knew him, he made a very positive impact on my little world. I can see he continued fill the lives of the people around him with joy. I am so sorry for your devastating loss. Just know, that he touched so many of us. Xo
This is such sad and terrible news. Marc and his father David were a big part of my teenage years, though I didn't do enough to keep up with them after I moved east. I know Marc worked hard to fulfill a dream and join the RCMP. In high school, he showed all the qualities that seem to have made him such a talented, and appreciated officer: self-possession, composure, good humour, and empathy. What a terrible loss for Lisa, his kids, David, the rest of his family and the community he served.
I worked with Marc in 2008-09 & was impressed with his dedication & work ethic. Marc was the epitome of a "community Mountie", truly proud to be representing the rich history & traditions of the RCMP. Rest in peace, Marc.
Marc was one of my good friends back in high school at Prince of Wales where we were in the same outdoor program and played rugby together. Both were environments where young people often tended to show their enthusiasm in healthy and, let's say, less healthy ways. Marc always found a way to fit in without "trying too hard" or coming across as stand-offish. He knew who he was and didn't feel the need to pretend to be anything else. I lost touch with Marc after high school, but it doesn't surprise me to learn of his personal accomplishments, much less his professional ones. Clearly, being a family man and serving his community were most important to him and he found a way to overachieve in both areas. Who knows what more Marc could have contributed if he hadn't been take from us so early, but I think he's already done more than most ever will. Rest in peace, brother.
Dear Lisa and family, I am so saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Marc. My thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to you! love, Barb
David Helen and I were saddened to read of the death of your son David. We condole with you and Celia. There is no loss greater than the loss of a child. Like that of a parent but greater only time can heal. Best Tookie and Helen
I knew Marc when he was a student of mine at UBC. We enjoyed each other and I always knew he would make a difference in many lives. He was passionate about being in the RCMP. He was hard working, honest and committed to his hopes and dreams. I made a point of being at his graduation ceremonies to meet his family and telling them how special I thought he was. I was shocked and saddened by this loss to his family and his community. I send my sympathy to his wife and children and other family members who will miss him terribly.
We are so very sad to learn of Marc's passing. Our family has precious memories of Lisa and Marc from when Makena and our son were part of a baby group. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and we are holding you close to our hearts in this time of grief. With love, Brenda and Family
I was a volunteer at D5 for 22 years. I first met Marc when he became a volunteer at Windsor Square. Marc was the most knowledgeable with the computer. I would leave computer jobs for him to figure out. On Saturdays I would often phone or go to the station on Saturdays to discuss the work. After Marc became a member and was at D5 working or visiting he would always give me a big hug and then we would poke fun at each other. I miss that. Marc was one of the finest people that I have every known. He leaves a big hole in the hearts of the RCMP staff, members and all of Surrey
I met Marc and Lisa at UBC in Physical Education in 1989 and we became good friends. Marc became an important person in my life. He was funny, smart, compassionate, and a great friend. I lost contact with Marc after University, but we reconnected a few times over the years. I knew Marc would go on to do great things for his community; he touched everyone he knew. I was, and am, devastated to hear of Marc's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those who knew this amazing man.
Marc and I became friends when he recruited me to assist him with Operation Remembrance, marking of forgotten WW1 Veterans Graves in the Surrey Field of Honour. I was immediately struck by his dedication and compassion, not only to the project we were then jointly involved in, but his daily work and life as an RCMP officer. Once our project was completed we remained in touch and I will miss his friendship. Marc touched many lives and has left us much too soon. God Bless and rest in peace my friend.
We both worked with Marc at UBC. He was such a great person. Smart, kind and hard working. We are so sad to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and co-workers. He will be forever missed.
condolences to his family
