Franklin Garnett Simms

November 7th, 2017

Ever on his own schedule, Frank Simms passed away in peace in the company of his wife, Alyson, with sons Alan and Tyler nearby, on November 7, 2017. Having lived to see his favorite team lose in game seven of the World Series, he decided then to plan his next round with father-in-law Alistair Drysdale on that great green golf course in the sky. Born in Toronto, Ontario and a graduate of UWO in London, Frank headed West in 1974 where he met his wife Alyson and son Alan Drysdale, and made his home in Vancouver from 1977 to the present. His son Tyler Simms was born in Vancouver in 1982.

Frank made his career in finance where he met many good friends. He was a vice president of RBC Dominion Securities in Institutional Sales in Vancouver, and later worked as a Financial Advisor at Dundee Corp. Frank had an abiding interest in current and local affairs, was an active participant in baseball and golf - playing, organizing and coaching - and had wide and varied circles of friends. Most recently he and Alyson split their time between Vancouver, Palm Springs CA, and Premier Lake BC, each locale having a special place in Frank’s life and heart.

Frank loved to laugh and spin a story. He was an original thinker, a loyal friend, a steadfast father, a devoted husband and a man of great integrity. And, he loved a cold can of beer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday Nov. 24th, 3:30 - 6:00 PM, at the UBC University Golf Club in Vancouver. He will be dearly missed by Alyson, Alan, Tyler, brother Rod (Eileen), and nephews Cameron Drysdale, Keegan and Sean Simms, and everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Frank and family are all extremely grateful to the amazing doctors and staff at the BC Cancer Agency whose commitment and care added years to his life. Donations in his name to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Vancouver Hospice Society would be a meaningful tribute to him.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
