Abram P. Fehr

With deep sadness, yet tinged with relief, we announce that Abram P. Fehr (affectionately known to most as Abe) passed away and stepped into the presence of our Lord at 10:10am on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Surrey Memorial Hospital as complications from pneumonia associated with recently diagnosed lung cancer overtook his ailing body.  He had just turned 74 years old.

He is survived by a family that loved him dearly: Margaretha (nee Dyck) – his wife of 54 years; his children – Helena (Gordon), Sarah, Margaretha (Michael) and John; his adoring grandchildren – Jessica, Sabina (Ryan) and Benjamin; his sisters – Mary and Sara (Franz); and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.  He will be so very missed.  He is predeceased by both of his parents – Sara (nee Peters) and Cornelius Fehr; daughter – Tina; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Abe had such a love for God; his family & friends; nature; music – both old school country & old school Mexican; classic cars; watching wrestling; making people laugh – he had such a cheeky sense of humour; and for helping you out – he truly loved being the go-to person to help with whatever you needed.  He loved surprising others but disliked being the centre of attention himself.

Abe was born and raised in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1944 within the Mennonite settlement there.  He was involved in the farming life; started tinkering with anything he could get his hands on to fix at an early age; also taught in the school within his community.  He loved to tell the story of how he met and subsequently began courting Margaretha, who would become his wife in June of 1964 and the mother of his children in the years that followed.  In the early 1970’s Abe & Margaret made the tough decision to take their children, leave Mexico and move to Vancouver, BC.  Shortly after their arrival, they gave birth to and sadly lost their youngest child.  After a few years of doing odd jobs, Abe was hired on at Page & Wilson as their watch repair person.  The staff at Page & Wilson became a second family to Abe. He worked there until his retirement – but then continued with a home-based watch repair service until his failing eyes and shaking hand prevented him from doing any more.
There was never a shortage of Mexican music in the family home (with many musicians stopping by - including his personal friend, Antonio Aguilar) and Abe was involved in many things, including the local chapter of the Ford Falcon club.
