Jane Elizabeth Mooney

January 18th, 2019

Jane passed away January 18, 2019 at Foyer Mallaird Residential Care Home in Coquitlam, BC at the age of 98. Her sons, Terry, Chad, Patrick and Greg as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her.

Jane grew up in Hafford, Saskatchewan. She graduated with her R.N. from St. Paul’s School of Nursing, Saskatoon and her BScN from the University of Saskatchewan in 1944. Jane’s first job was teaching first and second year nursing students, setting the direction for a long and successful career.

While at university, Jane met Frank Mooney. They were married October 25, 1944. Frank’s work took them from Saskatoon to Flin Flon, Manitoba. Jane continued to nurse for the ten years they lived in Flin Flon. Eventually they settled in Vancouver with their four sons. Jane continued her nursing career in Vancouver. She was as a staff nurse at Mount St. Joseph’s hospital, a nurse educator at St. Paul’s hospital and then, the Associate Director of Nursing Education at St. Paul’s. Jane loved teaching and this role was a highlight in her career. She then took a ten year break while her sons attended high school. Jane completed her nursing career as the Supervisor of a Residential Care facility.

As a member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Jane volunteered in many capacities including convener of church bazars, reading groups and then Parish and Diocesan president for the CWL. She was also a volunteer at St. Thomas More Collegiate, the school her sons attended.

In later years Jane and Frank spent winters in Arizona. After Frank died in 2000, Jane continued to be a vital part of her Church community. Her spirit remained strong even as her physical health declined. We are grateful to the Foyer Maillard staff for their gentle care and affection for Jane.

Prayers will be Sunday, Feb 3, 2019 at 7 pm at Our lady of Fatima, Coquitlam, BC and the Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 Monday, Feb.4 at Our lady of Fatima, followed by interment at Gethsemane Cemetery, Surrey, BC.  If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of their choice.
