Messages:
I had the privilege of working with Bernie at CPAir. A real team player he inspired everyone to do their best and do so through hard work, and the attention to detail. My deepest condolences to his family and RIP Bernie!
When we first moved to Richmond in 1982, my family experienced the kind Christian hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy. I remember once as a young man in the assembly, Bernie quietly slipping me some money into my hand as I headed to do some mission work in France. What an encouragement! After I married Carmen, we lived in Surrey for five years, and the Murphies were always so kind to us by having us over for many Sundays, helping us avoid driving back to Surrey between meetings. They have set a wonderful example to so many of us if what Christian charity should look like. Thank you for giving to the Lord!
Bernie and Dot's kindness to us during will not be forgotten. So hard to believe he is gone. He will be missed. xo
Bernie made an impact on everyone he met. The amount of people who attended his memorial is a testament to the amazing, selfless, Godly man he was. Dorothy, Lanette, Mark, Debra, Julia and the grandkids, you are in our prayers
We are thinking of you all in the sad loss of a dear husband, father and grandfather. Bernie was such a hard working, quiet and humble man. The service for him was very honourable, thank you for screening it for those who are further away. Heaven has gained a true servant of the Lord and now he rests in His Saviour's presence. May you all be encouraged as you hold onto memories and remember that you will be reunited in a coming day. Much love and prayers to you all. X
I only knew Bernie during part of my CPAir / Canadian Airlines days. He had time for me to give me some advice on my career change, prior to Air Canada taking over Canadian Airlines. What I remember best about Bernie, is when I lost my father about 28 years ago, Bernie gave thoughtful counsel for me when I was going through hard times. My deepest condolences to Bernie's family. May you RIP
I was shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Bernie. He touched so many lives for the good. I have a happy memory of Bernie always a smiling face. I am grateful I had the chance to know him as both a colleague and a dear friend. It was truly a pleasure working with Bernie at CP Air and at the Vancouver Customs Hall. He will be deeply missed. My sincere condolences to Dot and Family.
My sincere condolences to Bernie's family. He was a kind man and will be missed. May he rest in peace.
Bernie & Dorothy have been great friends to my parents (Dick & Janice Van Tol) for many years. On the last time I saw them, Bernie came up to me with so much excitement and a huge smile and hug like I was his long lost daughter and an invitation to drop by their home sometime. You always left his presence feeling better about yourself and life in general. Glenn and I were shocked and saddened to hear about his sudden passing and will remember him always. Our love to the family.
To Dear Dot, Debra, Lanette, Julia and family this news was such a shock to me as I'm sure it was to many others too, I have a happy memory of Bernie always a smiling face and visiting the family home were he and Dot welcomed us with a lovely dinner round a large table were a good few people joined us too and being given slippers to wear as we entered made us feel so at home. Thinking of you all and remembering you all in prayer. Karen Ashleigh and Jordan Grugan.
My condolences to Bernie's family. A person of great integrity who had everyone's respect. RIP Bernie.
My deepest sympathy to all of Bernie's family. I started at CP Air a year after Bernie and throughout my 35 years he was always kind and helpful to me. He always had time to listen. I enjoyed running into him now and then after retirement and having a little chat. May he rest in peace.
Our deepest codolences to Dorothy and family. Bernie was closer than a brother to us over the 45 years we have known him. We will alway cherish the Dec 23 phone call from Bernie. He had a true shepards heart caring for young and old. He demonstrated beyond measure "do what I do and not what I say". In our last conversation he was concerned about a number of older folk and how lonely they would be over Christmas. Dorothy, Deborah, Lanette, Julie and all thre grandchildren we dearly loved your husband, Dad and Grampy and will alway remember our fun times together and his many words of encouragement Our deepest sympathy George & Carol
I was so sad to hear the news of Bernie's passing and I recall very fondly the time I spent with them in 1999, when they opened their home to me for almost a year. Bernie was gentle, caring and kind, a man of good humour and wise godly advice. I will never forgot the time spent with them, their love and hospitality. My heart, prayers and love go out to Dot and the rest of the family. They have lost (though briefly) a wonderful man. Love Pete & Louise
I send heartfelt sympathies to Bernie’s family for your loss. I hold the greatest respect for his unswerving care and attention to his colleagues in the course of his career. May he rest in the warmth of all the kindness that he showed in life. R.I.P. Bernie.
I remember Bernie very well. He was always pleasant and consistent. I met him in 1970 when I first joined CP Air, and often passed him in the halls of the OPS Ctre. He was genuine and sincere and I will have positive memories of him. "May his soul and the faithful departed rest in peace, Amen". My deepest condolences to the Murphy Family
Bernie was a good friend when we worked together at the Airlines. He was always kind and compassionate. He was very understanding of others and at the same time a very private person. To Dorothy and family, please accept my deepest sympathies. He will be missed.

My Deepest sympathy to the Murphy Family and Friends. Our careers were with the Airlines. I did meet Bernie at the Vancouver Customs Hall where we stayed for approximately 9 plus years. We both had a target date of our second retirement which was after the Vancouver Olympics and so we did within a week of each other. He will be missed.
I knew Bernie from the days of Canadian Airlines Int'l. Always so helpful, friendly and kind. My deepest condolences to the Murphy family.

We will always remember Bernie with the fondest of memories stretching back to our wedding date when Bernie and Dot planned and put on our wedding reception. Bernie was always so willing to jump in to help with a servant's heart. He truly had the gift of helps and touched the lives of many, many people in incredibly positive and fruitful ways. We are very sorry for your great loss.

He enjoyed his time at the airline and made a major contribution to maintaining a positive employee environment. He was a positive thinker and a great guy to be around. I cannot make the service but at 5:00PM will raise my glass of wine and toast to Avery fine individual. Sincerely Gerry manning

To Dorothy and family. Some things we always remember about Bernie, When ever you would meet him he always had a compliment for you. You have a nice outfit on or your hair looks good. You always went away feeling wonderful. He will be missed. With our condolence, Love Bob and Carol
I remember being told how he would bring his three lovely daughters coffee to their bedside in the morning, and I wondered how a Dad could be any sweeter! I lost my father over 20 years ago and miss his presence still. My heart goes out to you three, your Mom and your families. Our condolences. Shari and Larry
Bernie was the kindest, humble most thoughtful man I have ever known. He lived to serve others in whatever way he could. Nothing was too much for him. He could always be depended on in any situation. He was friendly to everyone making each person feel special. He never cared about being acknowledged for what he did, whatever he saw that needed to be done was quietly taken care of. He helped countless people in every way he could and would often visit Seniors and those in hospital. One time my husband was struggling with mobility issues and Bernie was the one who noticed and checked up on him and assisted him to the car. I am blessed to have had Bernie as part of my life - the best brother-in-law ever! Until we meet again.
Sending my love and prayers to all the family in this time. Dot and Bernie were like second parents to me when I would often drive up from Seattle and spend time over weekends with the family. Many years of fond memories with them and Lanny, Debs, and Julia. You will be missed Bernie, and I always remember how much you treasured each of your girls. My heart is with each of you.
My deepest condolences to the family . I had the honour and pleasure of knowing a true Gentleman in Benard Murphy . Mr Murphy help me and others understand our pensions while we represented the agents at C.P Air and Air Canada .
Many condolences to the Murphy family at this difficult time. Remembering with fondness the hospitality extended to me by Bernie and Dot during my visits to their Vancouver home, where I was welcomed as one of the family. Bernie will be sorely missed but many lives have been impacted for eternity because of his godly testimony. While we know that he is with Christ which is far better, we will be praying for the Lord to be a real comfort to the family. Much love and prayers. Graham and Caroline Webb
I grew up across the street from this wonderful Murphy family. They took me in as I was one of their daughters. I ended up being the girls babysitter. I spent many years on a daily basis with this family. Mr & Mrs. Murphy were the parents I wanted. They included me in their every day lives & I love them both. Mr, Murphy was a “stand up” husband & father. He cared for everyone he interacted with. My heart goes out to this beautiful family
My heartfelt sadness is for you Dorothy and the girls and their families. It was very evident by Bernie’s life how much he loved you. You were all the light of his life. He was a very fair, compassionate and encouraging man. May our God of Comfort hold you all in His Arms of Mercy at this most difficult time and give you the strength that’s needed ahead. I am so sorry. With much love, Dixie Brennan
Our heartfelt condolences to all the family and especially to Lanette and family, the only connection we have to Bernie. Lanette is a living testament to who Bernie and her Mom were. Lanette, Mark and the children are a loving family who live their life in service for the Lord. May He give you strength and peace as you mourn Dad. Love Susan and Eric Munzer
Bernie was like a 2nd dad to me often! Dot: you and Bernie SO graciously had us in your home for a lovely meal more than any other couple I've known; Now our children are blessed benefactors of those delicious meals & times of fellowship. I'll never forget being nearly snowed-in back in '89 (?) & we w/ the girls sledded all Sunday afternoon by YVR...we then came home to the coziness of your home & another hot meal. Such FOND memories. Together, you've helped form so many great memories for at least 2 generations...It would take an hour for me to tell about all the diff't parties, showers, youth dinners that we were benefactors of. In these last 18 mo. as I went thru' personal crisis, Bernie often brightened my day w/ a hug & he gave me a few pieces of SAGE advice which will always stay with me. Dot, Debs,Lanny, & Julia: May the God of all Comfort enfold you in His care & May you feel His close presence every moment! Only HE can restore our souls (Ps.23)
I remember the great visit we had when you were on the cruise to Alaska and stopped in Ketchikan for the day. I lived there for many years, but am now living in Chattanooga, TN. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you go through these very tough times. Your cousin, Judy
Our hearts ache for you all but we are so glad that he is safe home. We both remember Bernie as a man devoted to his dear girls, Dot, Debra, Lanny and Julia. What a privilege to have had such a man in your lives and we know you will look back with deep gratitude for such a man. This makes your loss so hard to bear, knowing that you have lost such a man. But rest in the promise that we will “together...meet the Lord in the air.” What a moment that will be. No more sadness, sorrow or heartbreak....ever. Much, much love David and Kaz xxxx
We have wonderful memories of Bernie. He touched so many lives and is greatly missed. Sharing in your sorrow with love and friendship. "The LORD is a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him." Nahum 1:7
I BELIEVE HE IS IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST WHICH IS BETTER THAN LIVING ON EARTH.
Bernie was special, such a willing helper to anyone in need. He helped Jerry get a job at CP Air where he worked for 11 years, then gave him excellent advice regarding retirement. He will be greatly missed. May God grant the family peace and comfort through this difficult time.
Dot and family. Condolences to you all in the passing of Bernie. We mourn but not as those who have no hope. We can look forward to seeing our loved ones again. Love in Christ. Jenny Hedd
