George Edwin Sabiston
November 24th, 2019
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of George Sabiston, of Aldergrove, BC after a brief battle with cancer on November 24th 2019 at the age of 69 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 20 years, Julie; parents Ed and Shirley; children: Doug, Shannon (Steve), Cory (Mireille); Christine (Dennis), and Jeannine; grandchildren: Ethan, Madeleine, Logan, Michael, and Aria; brothers, Frank (Linda), Michael (Lori); sisters, Marina, Brenda (Richard); as well as numerous relatives and friends.
George was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who cared very deeply for his wife and family. He was a welcoming and loving man who embraced all his stepchildren wholeheartedly as his own. He was hardworking and spent many years as a mechanic even running his own businesses. He retired in 2004 and his focus became his wife and family. He took great pride in looking after Julie and their home. He was well known for keeping his house (inside & out) clean and tidy; some friends called him “Felix”. Everything had to be in its proper place. He enjoyed preparing meals for his family particularly during holidays. He loved to garden and grew the most delicious vegetables in his green house. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, but once his grandchildren came along they became his priority. He was always quick with a goofy grandpa joke to make the grandkids laugh. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm, on December 8, 2019, at Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club (1284 184th St, Surrey, BC V3Z 9R9).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Donations be made in George’s name to the BC Cancer Foundation at 150-686 W. Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1G1
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.

Dear Julie George is one more angel watching over all of us! I will miss talking to him about Goan cuisine. I was very touched and had tears in my eyes yesterday. Dear Julie and family, I cannot imagine how painful is loosing your husband, best friend and the love of your life. It is understandable to duel and be sad.. we are human and you need your time to heal. There is no words to ease your pain but I want you to know that I truly care deeply about you.. My heart is with you.
Dear Julie, our hearts sunk when we heard of the devastating news about George's diagnosis and then we felt shattered for you when he passed so quickly. I know he was the love of your life. He was a wonderful husband to you and quite apparently, a wonderful father and grandfather too. Some people don't share a love like yours in a lifetime. I'm so happy you at least had that with George for 20+ years. Much love and strength to you and your family. Trish and Jeff (G-off) xoxo
I'm deeply sorry for your loss and think of you often during these difficult times. I still remember your wedding day and how you are always so welcome of having me around. Just like second parents. George will always be in our hearts, and remembered as being a wonderful soul.
I remember meeting George when he first began courting Julie, and her daughters. He was so cute and gallant and would not be deterred. When she agreed to marry him and the wedding day came, I have to say he was the happiest groom, so excited about their new life ahead. Our opportunities to get together were fewer as time went on, but each time, walking into their house (or getting together somewhere) was to feel welcome and ‘home’ (and involved a tour of the greenhouse). He could not have known he would only have 20 years with Julie, but George lived and loved his whole combined family like it was a precious thing. Thank you George for showing us how it could be. Our lives, like Julie's, are richer for knowing you.
I was so sorry to learn of George's passing. The fun memories of my brother Ron's wedding and George standing in as best man complete with t-shirt. I got to know George & Julie and learned that my brother had a true and long-time friend. Julie, I hope your memories will be a solice during this sad time. Take care!

At this sad time, I thought I would share a joyous story about George: On Maddy’s first birthday the extended family were together to celebrate. Maddy had just started walking and was being a typical curious baby looking around at things of interest. Maddy’s Grandpa, George, saw this as an opportunity for some fun. George took her large yellow toy cellphone lying on the floor, pressed a couple of buttons that made inquisitive sounds and quickly hid it in his pocket. Maddy’s ears perked up and she started walking around investigating where these sounds were coming from. On the third “incident” Chief Inspector Maddy had found her culprit. This giant person smiling and giggling at her had been caught in the act. She reached into his pocket, pulled out the toy and raised it up above her head in triumph for solving this most important of mysteries. This is how I will always remember George, a playful lovable trickster and teacher of many little ones.
I'm still in stunned shock how fast George was gone, how our father and I had shared a great day Sept 21st with him and Julie....not knowing I was never going to see him again. I will miss you so much brother, I cherish the times we visited this year. I'm so glad I didn't make you mashed potatoes when you and Julie stayed with me in August. I never knew you disliked them. I'm so sorry Julie, you were so wonderful for my brother, he was very blessed to have you in his life. His calling was certainly being a grandfather.....how he loved his grandkids. He's going to be missed by so many. Knowing he didn't suffer very long eases some of the pain but it'll be a long time before the healing begins. RIP George....I love you. PS: I'll look after Dad xxx

Oh what can I say, after 30 years as good friends as we both passed a lot of words between each other. Our times together were always filled with little quips to bring on laughter. Many anecdotes to bring smiles and life's travels. I miss that more than anything, especially after my move to Kitchener. There were many e-mails later to fill in that "not face to face" meetings after my move to Kitchener. I am pleased I did get out for a visit in June. A good friend is always there. Now I so miss that "there" To Julie and all George's Family I know there is a void I wounder if time will heal. I am a richer man for knowing such a friend over our years. I dry my eyes and carry on.I will catch you later old friend.
Dear Julie, Eugene and I were saddened to hear of your loss. With deepest sympathy we express our condolences as we remember George who was such a great and loving person. Unfortunately we will not be able to attend the ceremony of life due to our absence in Canada. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Karina and Eugene
The too rapid passing of George to a better place leaves a big hole in our family. Our deepest sympathy to Julie and her family. One bright spot: the two daughters, when they learned of Julie's decision regarding George, was to concentrate on his "cheesy" sweaters. With time, this passed to love. Phil, Dee Warren and Jen Eyre
