Joseph "Joe" Resing
August 31st, 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing on August 31, 2020 of Joseph Resing.
Joe was born on March 16, 1934 in Ellewick, Germany where he apprenticed as a painter during his teenage years. In 1952, when Joe was 18 he left his home, his parents and six siblings to immigrate to Canada and make BC his home. In his early years in Canada Joe worked on hospitals, post offices, bridges and airports located throughout British Columbia.
In March 1983 Joe married the love of his life. He and Matilda have lived in Richmond for 37 years in a home that was the gathering place and heart of his family.
Joe will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, his curiosity and his ready smile by a large circle of family and friends in Canada and in Germany.
We regret, because of Covid19, that we can only accommodate invited close family members at Joe’s Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Gardens of Gethsemani Chapel with entombment to follow. Those attending the mass are invited to a reception that will be held following the service.
Messages:
I am sorry for your loss. Your dad was a hard working self made man. You inherited his good work ethic. I hope everthing went well at his funeral.
Dearest Matilda, When I heard of Joe’s passing I was deeply saddened for your loss and for the loss of my nieces’ and nephews’ Opa. He was a constant presence in their lives and was among the best of role models with regard to a loving family man, husband, and grandfather. Hi also modeled a work ethic that will be a hard act to follow. I’m sorry for your pain and your loss. May Joe rest peacefully and God’s grace and mercy be with you in these difficult times. Sincerely, Corinne
Dear Matilda and family, on your travels to Germany we got to know Joe as you characterized him in your obituary. A positive, friendly and always interested person who has never forgotten the country of his birth and his family roots. Joe has always been special to us, an uncle from the new world. Unfortunately we never managed to visit you in Richmond, he would certainly have been very pleased. We wish you and your whole family our deepest condolences and that you will find enough strength in the near future to overcome the great loss. Thank you for everything you did good to us, in memory of our deceased parents Sofie & Gerhard. Your nephews from Germany Norbert and Rainer Resing and families
Sasha and I are very heavy hearted about Joes passing. He was truly one of a kind. It seemed like no matter what happened in his day, when we came over he was always the most cheerful guy in the room. We had so many great moments with family playing pool and talking / telling jokes. Uncle Joe’s laugh was addictive. His deep chuckle always made me instantly laugh with him. Thank you to both you and Uncle Joe for always taking care of me through some of the hardest times in my life. I could always count on the both of you when there was no one there. Your generosity will never be forgotten. It is an honour to be apart of Uncle Joes funeral, although sad, Thank you for giving me this honour. Our love and hearts are will you. Love: Marc and Sasha
