Margaret Susan Hobson

Margaret was born in London, England until her family traveled by boat to Canada when she was 16 for a better life of opportunity.  Finishing her grade 12 at Burnaby South, then graduating from UBC with her Bachelor of Education.  She taught Physical Education and went on to become a Counselor in the Richmond School District before retiring and becoming part of the Richmond Retired Teachers Association. Along this journey she has made life long friends.

If you knew Margaret, you knew she loved to be active!  Was a tennis champion in High School, she loved hiking, walking, biking, swimming, line and tap dancing, drumming, aquasize, downhill skiing, Cross country skiing and back country skiing where she many times would helicopter in to Mount Assiniboine with her wonderful friends.

Margaret loved the outdoors and spent many summers at her Bridge Lake cabin in the Caribou. She was adventurous and loved to travel!  She drove across Canada with her young family in a VW Van, then out to see the world!  She traveled to every continent. Her favorite places were Antarctica, Bali, London, Hawaii, Tofino and one of her fondest memories was swimming on the Great Barriere Reef in Australia! She loved her trips with friends to Loreto, Mexico and always had a planned trip to look forward to.

In 1998 Margaret was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This only motivated her more to live her life to the fullest.  She was an avid member of Abreast in a Boat where she paddled and coached for over 20+ years.  This amazing group supported one another as they journeyed there battles together. She loved to be an active participant - finding more then support but wonderful friends.   

Later in life her cancer returned- but this made her more determined then ever to keep on going.  She had a zest for life and through treatment continued to travel, be active and appreciate her family and friends.   

Margaret loved to celebrate her family and was always very proud of her grandchildren!  She enjoyed fun family get togethers where she was thoroughly entertained!  She loved to laugh!  She also was very supportive as they worked hard to find their positions in life. She always wants them to remember her being active and to inspire them to do the same.

Margaret moved to Richmond in the late 1960's then to Steveston in the early 1990's where she called home.  Just this past March she moved to Tsawwassen.

Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Trevor Bakken, her grandkids she loved dearly Taylor (and Tanner), Bowen (and Hannah) and Colton. Predeceased by her partner Sheila Tynan, and daughters Stephanie and Rhonda.

Margaret will be well remembered as inspiring, and never to give up.  She will be missed by her family, and a life time of friends.
