Anders Henry Overland
August 12th, 2021
Anders Henry Overland age 59 of Port Coquitlam BC passed unexpectantly on August 12, 2021. Much loved by many friends and family members. Pre-deceased are his brother Alfred, his mother Wallie and his father Henry Overland.
An extremely caring, generous and beautiful person who loved to help out a friend whenever they needed. He was passionate about nature, wildlife conservation, and photography, combining all with daily hikes up around Burke Mountain in any weather or terrain.
Known for his love and skill rebuilding all types of vehicles, especially vintage muscle cars. he was proud of the work he accomplished with his 1971 bright orange Chevy Vega. Being a self-sufficient man, he chopped his own firewood to heat up the house and cooked food using his old iron wood stove.
He was a popular and gregarious natured man with an extraordinary sense of humour, everyone adored spending time with him. Also known as Lars Skarsgaard to his friends, it was always extra special when he attended your party or happy gathering, his smile and laugh lighting up the room.
Anders worked in the health care field for 30 years and was much loved by his colleagues and enriched the lives of the patients he worked with.
Intelligent, intellectual and philosophic, he was well read in many subjects and genres. Possessed a keen interest of life, geography and adventurers, planes, trains and all modes of transport of the 1800’s. Additionally he was fond of dark humoured folksy ballads such as the works of Robert F. Service. Such a remarkably complex person with many other interests, and accomplishments cannot possibly be summed up in few paragraphs. It is obvious that he touched the hearts and souls of everyone who knew him.
In the evening he could be found watching Coronation Street, cooking a curry or reading. This quote by Mahatma Gandhi of which he had taped to the fridge “The best way to find yourself is to the lose your self in the service of others”.
Most notably, he was an active member of The Coquitlam Watershed Watch Society. Please consider donating to this cause in his name and honor. https://watershedwatch.ca/donate-now/ There will be fund raising events for wildlife and salmon conservation in his name to be announced in the near future.
We can all agree Anders is a gold star person who will forever be beloved deep in our hearts and souls.
Until we meet again dearest Anders.

My handsome mountain man. I will love you always and forever.
I met Anders several years ago along the trails of the Coquitlam River. He was such a likeable, engaging and knowledgeable person. We would talk for far too long and then he would hustle up the Plateau or head home. We shared the love of nature, wildlife and hiking. Coincidentally our professional lives lead us to learn we shared experiences with some 'clients', and we each got a big kick out of that. He will be missed by many, and his contribution to nature and conservation will leave a void.
Condolences
Anders, I still find it difficult to accept you are gone; feels surreal. I was looking forward seeing again on your next trip to the Okanagan. Hard to believe Ive known you for almost 30 yrs. We shared many good times and laughs ...You were a very resilient, gentle soul, who loved nature and protected those who were vulnerable and lucky enough to call you a friend. I am so proud of you, all that you had overcome and had grown up to be...I hope you knew how much you were loved & respected. To his family and friends who were his family, I'm so sorry for this loss, hope your memories of Anders are close to your heart❤
Anders, You were a glowing light in a place of darkness. A best friend who was like a big brother to me and always helping me out.Thank you for the laughs, the good times, and the support you’ve given me throughout 30 plus years. I just wish I could have helped you more. I’m going to miss you terribly.
Anders always had a smile, a handshake, and a how you doing, for me. He will be missed. Rest in peace buddy!
I met Anders 14 years ago and instantly got along with him maybe because we both had the quick wit and dark humor. Spent many a day chatting about the changing landscape of Coquitlam especially around his place. He led a simple life but was very happy being outdoors and hiking as mentioned. Also the cost of fuel and his Vega! LOL You will be missed my friend. Bela
We will miss your bright happy smile when you drove up in the Vega and went to the car shows. Joe misses the good old days of riding dirt bikes up in the mountains. Gone too soon my friend. May you rest in peace.
What a lovely tribute. Words well spoken ❤️ I was fortunate enough to become one of Anders’ friends. ~Always there for me. It’s like he knew when to call, and reach out. He will be dearly missed by so many. Rest In Peace my friend xo
I worked with Anders for 15 years on the farm. One of the best people there. Always willing to give a hand and always made you smile. He had a presence like very few. So sad to hear. I’ll miss ya buddy! May you finally be at peace.
Our mothers (Margaret Katona) were best friends since they were small children, and we knew each other when we were young, and early teens but as lives grow and change. I don't know what made me search for you and your family tonight. I am saddened that you are gone so young, but content to know you were an a amazing person. My heart goes out to your sister, Andrea... wherever you are, I think of your family often, and with affection. My deepest condolences.
