Duncan Frederick Graham Millar

Duncan Frederick Graham Millar passed away on June 24th, 2022, at age 68 after a two- and half-year battle with dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Duncan leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Martha, children Alexandra, Charlotte and Malcolm and stepsons Angus and Geordie. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Rob, Douglas, and Cynthia.
Duncan was a true representative of the Renaissance man. He was well educated both formally and through his voracious appetite for reading and learning which led to broad interests that spanned politics, global religions and relations, social justice, and fairness. He was an avid sailor of all forms of wind powered crafts, loved to ski, and snowboard, was a dedicated curler and all-around athlete. His exceptional talents lay in his tremendous creativity expressed through his Art that hangs on walls throughout the world, his cooking that made dining out even at the finest establishments a let down, his music, and his ability to fix or build just about anything. People and animals were attracted to him, and he had a special knack of quickly developing a genuine and intimate interest in new acquaintances that often led to lifelong friendships.
His innate curiosity which served him well in learning about people, history, and astrological facts, travelling and living around the world, also contributed to his experimentation with alternative educational experiences which many of his friends enjoyed and still talk about today.
No one who had the privilege of meeting Duncan will forget his curly hair, twinkling eyes and sophisticated sense of humor. He taught us all a lot. He will be missed.

Martha, Alley, Charlotte, Malcolm and family, we send our heart felt condolences to you and all the family who have lost Duncan. He was such an adventurer and free spirit. He always spoke with such fond memories of you and the family in Abu Dhabi along with other amazing adventures. He loved sailing, so much that he would drive from Flesherton to Port Credit every race night for a win. Duncan was the key sailor winning the PCYC General Class Championship Cup. We're so sorry for your loss and extend to you and the whole family our deepest regards and condolences.

I'll always remember Uncle Duncan as the guy who tried to teach me Russian when I was four, the laughs we had, he bought me my first pair of earrings (even though at the time my ears weren't pierced yet at the time), bought me pig slippers for Christmas at age 6, Throwing me a sweet 16 party at his house in Toronto and so much more. I will miss him and love him always.
Just came back from Sable Beach, and while passing through Flesherton, was thinking about the good times with the Millar/Younger family. Just woke up to the news, and would like to pass on my condolences from Dirk, Sylvie and our children. I will miss Duncan very much.

So many memories it’s difficult to mention only one. I was fortunate to have been the recipient of many of Duncan's fine dinners especially when I was a single mother of twins , he would arrive from the city with a couple friends in tow and cook up a storm! That being said my kitchen would never be the same, but it was worth it! From sharing a place in Port Carling for a year with Dean Clark, to seeing Duncan and Martha’s beautiful horse farm and getting together to ski, it was always a good trip! Condolences to the family.
Rest in peace Duncan. May your days be filled with beautiful guitars and coffee which were the two things that brought us together for the brief time we got to know each other.
Cynthia I'm sorry to hear this news. I have lots of memories of fun times around Duncan at Royal Muskoka Island. Please accept my condolences.
I remember Duncan as a teenager, he was part of a group of friends of my younger sisters. Duncan always stood out. His intelligence, his creativity and always his zest for life. I have along with so many others followed his thoughtful comments and art creations on Facebook. He was courageous and loving. We are all better people having known Duncan. RIP dear Duncan.

Dear Martha and family: Duncan was one of the more colorful and creative people I had the pleasure of meeting way back during our time living in Abu Dhabi. I remember many memorable meals, how you both helped Natalie and I figure out how and where to camp in the desert in Oman - good times, good fun with the camels and the dunes! I also recall the time I visited your farm in Ontario in the winter and seeing many of Duncan's lovely paintings in your home. May your happy memories of Duncan keep you company and may he rest in peace.

Dear Martha and family; I met you and your dear late Duncan only once. I was a guest at an organization event for carriage driving, at your home in Flesherton, Ont. I didn't know any of you carriage driving folk, but I was made very welcome! Thank you, Frances.
