Theresa Elaine Evans

September 18th, 2023

Theresa passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 18th of September 2023 after a very long illness with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at age 73. She was diagnosed with MS in 1986 but was able to work 10 years after that. She is survived by her two sisters, many relatives and nieces and grand children, whom she kept in touch with until she could no longer operate her computer or the phone.

As a girl who grew up in BC logging camps, she had an unusual, detailed knowledge of the BC forest and lumber industry. After high school she was educated at Vancouver Vocational and also 7 years of mostly night-school at BCIT to earn her certificate as administrative assistant.
She worked originally for two savings and loan companies, which gave her some financial background and accounting ability. Her true calling was with the lumber companies. She was hired by Primex lumber (by reputation) from her original paneling plant, who found quickly she had skills unusual for a female employee.  She was capable of talking to the yard men in their own language and getting the paperwork done correctly. Over time she rose to the position of office manager.

When she could no longer live at home, she was assigned to Surrey Memorial Hospital at ECU1 (Extended Care Unit One) on 4th July 2007. She had her electric wheelchair, and we could visit the Dairy Queen for an Ice cream or go exploring in SMH. Her wheelchair was a pass into any department. She was transferred to the new CareLife Fleetwood in April 2008. When she passed on, she was one of the last original occupants at Carelife.

All of Theresa's possessions including all of her adaptive clothing and medical equipment have been donated to Carelife Fleetwood who looked after her so well for so long.
