Merlyn MacAlpine
November 9th, 2023
Merlyn passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023, at 88 years old. She was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1935, to parents Otis and Geneva Ervin. She was the fourth and last surviving of six children.
Merlyn met her soul mate, Ian MacAlpine in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and they married in 1958. Shortly thereafter they moved to BC and eventually settled in Abbotsford in 1973.
More than anything (except playing any type of card game!), Merlyn loved to take care of her family and especially having everyone at the family cabin on Salt Spring Island.
Merlyn was predeceased by her husband Ian one year ago and by her beloved granddaughter Cheryl in 2011.
Surviving her are her daughter Karen and Lon Fraser, daughter Cathy and Shawn McCormack, son Doug and Lisa MacAlpine. Merlyn is survived by her grandchildren: Brad (Sharlotte) Fraser, Keith Fraser, Shannon (Greg) Cavanagh, Dan (Becca) MacAlpine, Leanne (Jason) Swaan, and Shawna McCormack. She also leaves great-grandchildren: Micala, Paige, Liam, Kylie, Addison, Kenzie, Hunter, Keira, and Owen.
Special thanks to the staff of The Oxford for taking such good care of her. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia would be appreciated.
There will be a private family service at the cabin as she requested.
