Dorothy Eleanor Miller (April 1927-November 2023)

Dorothy Miller passed away in Surrey, BC on November 28, 2023, at the age of 96. Dorothy was predeceased by Edward her husband of 52 years in 2003, daughter Wanda Webb in 2018, parents Herbert and Verna Smith, brothers Dunsmore and Walter Smith.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons Wade Miller (Melody) and Mark Miller (Lindsay), son-in-law James Webb, grandchildren Colin (Karen) Webb, Shawna (Christian) White, Kelsey Miller, Zachary (Nichole) Miller, Landon

(Naomi) Miller, James and Hope Miller, great grandchildren Carson and Sophie Webb, Halle and Hanna White, Kate Wighton (close family friend).

Dorothy was born in Saskatchewan April 22, 1927, on the family farm in the Rural Municipality of Key West. The youngest of 3, Dorothy held her older brothers in the highest regard. At the age of 13 years, she tragically lost her oldest brother Dunsmore in 1940 as a casualty of war, only to see her brother Walter leave to join the Canadian Navy where he served out the remainder of the war before returning to the farm. Dorothy often reminisced about her farm life, and the many animals that she cared for as a child. Dorothy was especially fond of her cats. Elementary school years were spent in a one-room schoolhouse in Key West. The school was located four miles from the farm, mode of transportation was horseback in the summer and horse and cutter in the winter. After elementary school she boarded out while attending high school in Ogema. Once she completed high school Dorothy was off to Teacher College in Moose Jaw. After receiving her teaching diploma, she taught in various schools in Key West and the surrounding areas.

In 1951 Dorothy married Edward Miller, a Dahinda area farmer. In addition to being a grain farm operation they raised cattle and horses. Their three children were involved in sports and the local 4H club, which involved many hours on the road travelling to various events. Ed and Dorothy were fantastic dancers for which they received many positive comments. Although having a hectic farm life with many long hours they always found the time to attend as many dances as they possibly could. After they sold their farm in 1994 Ed and Dorothy moved to Moose Jaw, later moving to Prince George BC, eventually settling in the White Rock/South Surrey area of BC.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dorothy cared dearly for her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. When you visited with Dorothy it was obvious from all the pictures around her home that she was extremely proud of her family.

Dorothy's request was for cremation with her final resting place to be with her parents and brothers in the Ogema Cemetery.
