Barbara Ann Stewart
November 21st, 2023
BARBARA ANN STEWART (nee DUNCAN) It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Stewart on the 21st of November 2023 at the age of 71. After a brief yet determined fight, Barb passed away peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
Predeceased by her husband Rick, Barb is survived by her son Christopher, her brother David (Rosemary) and her niece Katherine (Chris). She is also survived by the numerous friends, neighbours, and customers she interacted with every day.
Affectionately called the Save-On Lady by those who knew her while she was working at one of the Maple Ridge Save-On-Food stores, she touched many lives, influenced some, and treated most like family. She will be sorely missed by all.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Ridge Meadows Hospital for their valiant efforts in helping Barb. Nothing was too much to ask for. We also want to thank Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services for their professionalism and empathy in giving Barb the dignity she deserved. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial tributes, in Barb’s name, be made in the form of charitable donations to the Semiahmoo Foundation. I have nothing but fond memories of Barb and our time together at Save on Foods. She was always the first person customers saw when they arrived and made everyone feel so welcome. Always a smile, a laugh and a greeting, Barb was so important to the success of the store, possessing so much knowledge and the ability to make everyone that shopped feel special. I especially remember giving Barb tasks of helping to sell product...saying "Barb, can you sell this pallet of product for me while we are on lunch." Every time we came back, it was sold, and the look on the other managements faces was priceless. Such an amazing lady and I will miss her dearly. My heart goes out to you Chris and I hope that you can take comfort in knowing how incredible she was and how we all felt about her.
My sincere condolences to Barbs family. I always looked forward to our chats in the lunchroom at Save On. Her presence is immensely missed. My heart goes out to Chris, I always admired the relationship between Barb and Chris. She was an outstanding listener and friend. Love to all
Barb was always loving, caring and such a helpful lady. I still think about you, you have not been forgotten. I still think you’re gonna come early to work and have coffee with everyone. It still feels that you’re just down one of the aisles. I remember how you always asked about the kids and how old they are and what they’re up to. May you be at peace with your husband. Thoughts and prayers are with you Chris during this difficult time.
Truly caring, considerate, compassionate and helpful are a few attributes that I admired about Barb. She was always so willing to help anyone out at work customers, or staff. We shared many giggles and sometimes our frustrations too but no matter what she was always just there. Barb will truly be missed by myself and anyone that had the pleasure of working with her. I’m sending my sincerest condolences to Chris and family.
I am so sorry for your loss sending deepest condolences. My heart goes out to you Chris her wonderful fun loving son. I will miss Barb so much as she was a big part of my life and our save on foods family. I worked with her for over 20 years when we opened 935. We shared so many laughs and great conversations over the years. She was always so kind and helpful to me and to everyone she talked to. She will be missed so much the isles are so empty without her. She is one very special angel and now she is with the love of her life Rick. Forever in our hearts and never forgotten. I miss you so much. Rest in peace Barb. Donna J
What can I say that hasn’t already been said. Barb always made me feel special and always went out of her way to help. She always inquired as to how my family was doing and sincerely cared about my response. Barb had a way of making everyone feel special, going out of her way to help them. I will truly miss our chats at Save-on and at Winners where we often crossed paths. She had the gift of remembering what our previous conversations were and always followed up on them the next time we met. Barb always inquired as to how my family was doing with sincere interest. I have marveled over the years at how independent and conscientious she was. I truly miss her presence when I do my shopping now, as I know many others feel the same. I’m sure she has happily reunited with her husband and I hope that someday Chris will find comfort with that. May peace be with you.
