Henry Teo

November 1st, 1935 ~ November 27th, 2024

Henry Teo was born November 1, 1935 in Singapore and passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024.  Henry will be remembered and sadly missed by his daughter, Mary-Anne; son, Jeremy (spouse Ida); grandchildren, Victoria and Evan; and his sisters, Mary and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline.

Henry valued education and was a teacher, himself, at the beginning of his career.  He then joined the Singaporean navy, moved up through the ranks and ended his naval career as Lieutenant Colonel – Head of Naval Logistics.

In 1976, Henry, Madeline, and their children immigrated to Canada from Singapore.

They first settled in Port Alberni where Henry worked at MacMillan Bloedel and retired from his role as Senior Project Accountant about 20 years later.

Henry and Madeline moved to Nanoose Bay for a few years before settling in Victoria in 2005.  While in Nanoose Bay, Henry discovered a passion for gardening which continued once they moved to Victoria.

Henry was very active in his retirement years volunteering with the church, including the choir, parish council, as well as visiting parishioners in hospital.  In addition to his volunteer work, Henry’s grand passions were spending time with his wife and playing as much golf as possible.  During his golfing adventures, Henry won several accolades, and his trophies were proudly displayed in their home.

Henry also enjoyed travelling, with his favourite destination being Hawaii.

His other frequent travels included spending time in the Okanagan with his son and family, watching his grandchildren grow up through the years.

At the heart of it all, Henry was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  He was devoted to his family and enjoyed eating the Southeast Asian cuisine his wife cooked and was a connoisseur of sweet treats.

A memorial service will be held on January 11, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth Church (10030 Third Street, Sidney, BC) with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Penticton Regional Hospital Foundation.
