Alwin Roland Anhorn

Alwin Roland Anhorn passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2012 at age 86, on the 62nd anniversary of his marriage to Esther, his first love and mother of his seven children. Alwin was born at home in Sunnyslope, Alberta on November 9, 1925, to Theofil and Emma Anhorn.
He was the only son of seven children. His sisters were Gerda Diegel (deceased), Norma Angell (deceased), Elnora Strohschein (deceased), Ruby Schafer, Florence Halbgewachs, and Betty Greig (deceased).
Alwin was raised on the family farm near Torrington, Alberta. He attended school at Kneehill School. Alwin took over the farm at age 15 after his father was disabled. He met Esther Schafer from Alix at a barn dance and they were married in Stettler, Alberta on August 24, 1950. Alwin and Esther farmed and raised their family on the farm near Torrington. Esther passed away on May 9, 1997. Their children are: Viola (Roland) Ziegler and children Dallis (Vicki) and Tyler; Sharon (Douglas) Pieper and children Tammy, Rhonda (Tim), Tony (Candice), and Amanda (Bobby); Ian (Denise) Anhorn and children Lacey and Staci; Brian (Susan) Anhorn and children Travis, Patricia, and Shane; Alan (Connie) Anhorn and children Matthew, Daniel, and Luke; Faye (George) Wik and children Roman and Colton; and Eric (Elizabeth) Anhorn and children Rebecca (Joshua) and Stephanie. Alwin also had 12 great-grandchildren. Alwin married Adeline in 2002. In September, 2011, Alwin moved to Mount View Lodge in Olds, Alberta before entering Olds Hospital where he passed away.
Dad’s interests were his family, fishing, hunting, woodwork, and practicing his electrical skills helping many in the community. He enjoyed being a long-time member of the Torrington Lions Club.
Alwin and Esther enjoyed many activities together, playing cards, square dancing, fishing, camping, visiting with neighbors, and travelling to Lions club conventions.
Alwin was predeceased by his wife, Esther. Dad is lovingly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In respect of Alwin’s wishes a private internment service was held August 29, 2012 at Torrington Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services of Airdrie.
I read in the Three Hills Capital newspaper that your father ALVIN had passed away on August 24. I want to extend my sympathy to all of you. It has been many years since I have seen any of you, but I still have the memory of being your neighbor growing up on the farm next to yours.
