SMITH (nee Munro), Evelyn “Lena” Norma
Lena Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Father Lacombe Care Centre at the age of 85. Lena was born and raised on the family farm near Carnduff, SK on August 8, 1931. She had many fond memories of those days growing up on the farm with her large family. Lena was a kind and loving woman, a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed caring for her son in his early years and later her grandchildren. She faithfully supported her husband and helped him run a very busy excavation business in the early boom of Calgary. She was an avid reader all of her life and could easily devour a book in a day. She was a wonderful baker, and everyone looked forward to her Christmas goodies each year. She enjoyed times visiting with her family and Saturday nights out for supper with her husband and family. She loved her coffee and always had a pot brewing in the kitchen should anyone drop in for a visit.
Lena is lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Frank Smith; son, Dean Smith (Anne); Laura Sterling (former daughter-in-law) her much-loved grandchildren, Graham, Nathan, and Emily; and dearly missed by her siblings, Marion (Doug), Estella (Bill), Kathryn (Ron), Edith (Lorne), Dorothy, John, Gary (Carol) and Larry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Esther Munro and four siblings, Ruby, Nick, Kenneth, and Stewart. Her family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at the Father Lacombe Care Centre for helping her to enjoy her final days.
