Devine Elden
December 30th, 2018
On December 30, 2018, Devine left neatly packed on Flight #000 Heaven bound after a long and full, creative and colorful life.
Devine leaves behind an eclectic group of friends and family who will continue her legacy by passing forward the many little pearls of wisdom she so consistently shared.
Her constant reminders to:
Live a life with an “Attitude of Gratitude” or
“Each One, Teach One”
will remain with each of us and ensure her generosity of spirit continues on in the world!
“Reflection”
I shall pass through this life but once.
If, therefore, there is any kindness I can show,
Or any good I can do any fellow being,
Let me not deter or neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again.
Devine died with appreciation for the Medical Assistance in Dying program.
In her words,
We are all a sacred part of each other’s journey, that’s what makes us friends. It’s not easy to leave this earth. Please be grateful for the long and meaningful relationships we have had. Remember I love you all.
Blessings continue to shine on you, Devine
Devine’s sense of peace and strength at the end was, as always, an example to those of us present. While we will miss you Devine, we know that you will be on the welcoming committee when our time comes!

Devine Elden was a special friend of mine as she was to many others. She was a lady who lived by the code that she preached and oft recited, “a life of attitude and gratitude.” It was not until the later years of her life that I came to know and understand the complexities that comprised this lady. It was a relationship that developed between us that allowed me to realize that her positive outlook on living and her giving attitude were the qualities that drew myself and so many others to become close to her. A long life can be marred by setbacks, disappointments, struggles both emotional and economic and heartbreak. What truly marked Devine as a lady of distinction was how she emerged from these setbacks and was able to realize an existence that was rewarding for her and had a positive effect all others she came in contact with. Undoubtedly it is not an easy challenge to emerge in mid-life and have to set about making the best of a situation fraught with economic perill, long hours, tiredness and a loneliness that comes from having embarked upon a solo career of entrepreneurship. That Devine did just that speaks of the qualities of perseverance and toughness that earned for her the admiration of so many. My being, as I know it has been with so many others, has been enriched by my close friendship with Devine. I grew to appreciate why she loved her home community of Steveston, came to understand the reasons why she acquired so many friends, appreciated her ability to reach out in so many positive ways and most of all, the true love she had for living and doing things that had a positive effect on so many including myself. In this complex and troubled world there are many choices that an individual can make and as many potential outcomes as a result of those choices, both positive and negative. Often, someone may wither before the consequences and withdraw from the world and it’s challenges. Or an individual can decide to strive to overcome obstacles, to utilize one’s talents to make things better for themselves and for others and to reach out to give in so many different ways. Devine Elden chose the latter of those two options and that is why she will be remembered by so many of us as an individual that we so deeply valued. Gerry Swan In memory of Devine Elden

This blessed corner of Westwater Village will always be our secret! For 31 years we shared our space, sometimes it felt distant but there was never a doubt I my mind that I had an angle as my best friend, my mentor, and the best neighbour anyone could have! We miss you dearly and know that we were blessed to have you in our life! RIP dear friend

So happy to have her as an aunt. Always vibrant, wise, generous, stylish and deeply spiritual, she shared her love of God with so many of us. Having etched a place in our hearts, we will indeed miss her.
Sorry to hear you've left us, Devine. You were a one-of-a-kind, larger than life woman who will not easily be forgotten.

Stevestons Mayor. Devine the true Free Spirit, Devine blessed a lot of Lives. I remember her favorite Friday activity was before closing time she would to turn Jet lag boutique over to a customer and go from store to store blessing everyone, Devine brought happiness hope and goodwill to everything she did.
Devine, Steveston lost an amazing piece of history on your passing. I loved and appreciated your sense of place and it’s people. Your place in the history of Steveston will live on in the people and their many stories of Devine Elden. It was my luck and pleasure to be part of Steveston life with you in it. Live on Devine.
