George Edward Olsen

December 29th, 2011

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that our family announces the death of our husband, father and grandfather. George passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, with family by his side, at the Wetaskiwin Hospital on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the age of 69 years.

George leaves behind his wife and best friend of forty-eight years Trude Olsen of Wizard Lake; one son Brad (Kelly) Olsen of Red Deer; three grandchildren: Steven, Emma and Jordan; former daughter-in-law Kathy Olsen of Ponoka; three sisters: Marlene (Randy) Hall, Muriel Frederick, and Myrtle (Nick) Gorda; one brother Greg (Sonia) Olsen; as well as numerous other family and too many friends to mention. George is predeceased by his mother and father Marjorie and Alton Olsen.

A Celebration of George's Life will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 2 pm at the Lake Del Community Hall at the Village of Pigeon Lake. Public Visitation will take place prior to the Service from 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George's name may be made directly to your local S.P.C.A, or S.T.A.R.S Building 16, 29 Airport Road, Edmonton, AB T5G 0W6.

Trude, Brad and Kelly I was sorry that I could not be there today to help your family in your time of need as Brad was there for me when my mom passed away. I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. It was a pleasure getting to know you and George as well as being able to work with Brad and Kelly. You are all truly amazing people. Diann

Trude, We were so sorry to hear of George's recent passing. I have never felt more welcome than when I first met the two of you and visited your home. Tom and I often reminisce of the wonderful evening we had when the two of you visited our home. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Much love - Tom and Margaret Ann

Trudy, Brad, Kelly, and family, It just is so hard to comprehend that two years ago Uncle George was sitting in dad's front entrance, we were goofing around, I had a movie camera... Uncle George was trying to hide from it... The last thing i remember is the walk up the hill with George and Trudy... you remember Trudy... I thank God every day that I had that time with you both, and remember always, that you are soooo sooo loved, and George you will NEVER be forgotten. Dear Lord, please take care of Uncle George, and Uncle George please watch over us... We all will be together again one day.

Brad and family, Condolences to you and your family with the loss of your Dad. Tracey Pavlick

Mom, It is so surreal seeing Dad's obituary. Kelly and I just got through looking at more pictures of Dad - some brought tears to our eyes and others made us laugh and smile. The ones that made us smile were ones with both you and him, because it was you who brought the most joy to his life and that joy showed on his face when he was around you. In our heads we know how difficult it must be losing half of who you are, but our hearts could not possibly comprehend the extent of the sadness and loss you must be feeling. Just know that Kelly, the kids and I are here for you...whenever you need us. We all love you dearly.
