Janet Patricia Stuffco

December 25th, 2011

After a long struggle, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Stuffco, our wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. Janet passed away in the early hours of Christmas day - her favorite time of the year. She loved family connections at Christmas time and she truly embraced the spirit of spreading good will and joy to all. Family and friends alike will remember Janet's "home" by the aromas that permeated the air from one of her famous dinners where all were welcome.

Janet will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 52 years, Michael; children, Leianne (Jack), Jeff  (Janet), and Tom (Sandra); sisters, Marilyn (Stan) and Dereka (Bill); and brothers, Brian (Brigitte) and Barry (Maureen). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Christopher, Aspen, Amanda, Dustin, Derek, Kendra, Jenna, Zachary, and Jack Michael; five great grandchildren, Hannah, Kira, Tyler, Ethan and Kaitlin; as well as many extended family members who all hold a special place in their hearts for her.

Janet's life was one marked by care and generosity. Easily recalling the names and stories of friends and acquaintances she crossed paths with throughout her life, (however casual), was a testament to the importance Janet placed on relationships. She truly cherished all of her friends, many of whom she met through the West Park Community Association. Her career began with teaching in Peace River country followed by years as a Home Economics Teacher at Alberta School Hospital in Red Deer. She then worked for Central Alberta Residence Society and lastly at the Red Cross. In addition, Janet dedicated countless hours to charitable causes and helping friends in need.

Although sad in that we'll miss her kind and loving ways, we find solace knowing that she is in a better place.

A Memorial Celebration of Janet’s life will be held at the Harvest Centre, Westerner Park, 19
th Street in Red Deer on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm.

Memorial donations in Janet’s honor can be made directly to either The Red Cross, #105, 5301 - 43 Street, Red Deer, Alberta  T4N 1C8 or The Salvation Army, 4837 - 54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta  T4N 2G5.

Messages of condolence may be left for the family.

Hello Mike. Since hearing the news of Janet's passing, you have been in my thoughts daily, and I've been thinking back to when Leianne and I were chumming around with each other and how you and Janet welcomed me with open arms into your home in Red Deer. What I remember the most about Janet was her giggle-laugh that was always accompanied by a fabulous twitching of her nose that made her smile so darned warm and infectious - from that you just knew you would be in the company of a wonderfully big-hearted person. You and she made me feel so at home, and I instantly loved you two. You have both made my life so much richer. Her passing now reminds me again how fragile life is. We all think we have so much time to "get around to..." this or to do "that". It's hard at times to face when a reality such as this sets in to remind us we need to stop and honor what we have. Please know that I hold memories of Janet in my heart and will for my lifetime. May the grief of your loss quickly turn into joy of remembrance.

Mike and family, Our sympathies go out to you. You and Janet were so welcoming to our brother Richard's twins after he passed away, and Jeff and Janet flew them out for Hockey School with Dustin. As well you extended your hospitality to Rhonda, Kyle & Irene when they arrived later. You went out of your way to meet up with us for lunch whether in Ontario or in Calgary. Our thoughts are with you and your family in this sad time. The Hall Family Lanark/Perth, Ontario
