The family announces, with profound sadness, that George passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Bethany CollegeSide, Red Deer, AB at the age of 91 years. George was born and raised on the family farm in the Melville – Cana District in SE Saskatchewan. Farming alongside his brother, Joe and mother, Apolonia, in 1979 they retired and sold the family homestead with George and family relocating to Red Deer, AB. Joe and his mother, Apolonia moved to join sisters, Theresa and Margaret already living in Vancouver, BC. George was a prominent and active member of the Melville and Cana districts and farming community. He was cherished as a loving, caring and supportive father of all his family and will be deeply missed by all. The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at the Bethany Group – Rosehaven, Camrose, AB and the Bethany CollegeSide, Red Deer, AB care facilities for all their special care and kindness they gave to George during his stay.
George will be missed and remembered by his loving wife, Shirley; sons Terry, Darryl, Barrett, Gerard and Kelly; daughters, Janine, Sharon and Sandra; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph; and sister, Margaret. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Apolonia Korponay; sisters, Theresa and Rose Ann; and grandson, Csaba Suveges.
A Funeral Mass is to be celebrated at St. Mary’s Parish, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:00 am with luncheon to follow and internment to follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, #308, 14925 – 111 Avenue SW, Edmonton, AB, T5M 2P6, or to the charity of your choice.
