STANGNESS, Clifford Laverne
June 17, 1931 - January 31, 2017
Cliff passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 85 with his closest family by his side. Cliff was born to Ole and Lizzie Stangness of Carseland, Alberta on June 17, 1931. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 14, 1954 after loving what he had learned about his creator and his wonderful promises for the future. Cliff then married Bernice Van Dyke on June 22, 1957 in Calgary, Alberta. The couple settled on the family farm outside of Innisfail, Alberta, where Cliff lived out the rest of his life farming and taking pride in the care of the yard. Cliff and Bernice welcomed their children, Lane in 1959 and Stacey in 1971. Besides farming, Cliff enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, skiing, fishing, hunting, riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles. After retiring from the farm, Cliff found enjoyment in spending a countless amount of time with his grandchildren and traveling with the family.
Cliff is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Bernice; son, Lane (Joyce); daughter, Stacey (Bruce); grandchildren, Spencer (Seana), Shad, Chantelle, Cheyenne (Ben), and Laramie; and great grandchildren, Aidan, Dakota, William, Landon and Kingston. Cliff was predeceased by his sister, Selma; brothers, Arthur and Robert; daughter-in-law, Sharon; and grandson, Scott. Cliff loved his family, friends, farming (especially harvest time and all the food it brought) and sharing his hope for the future from the scriptures.
A Celebration of Cliff’s Life will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3304 52 Avenue, Innisfail, AB on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the intensive care unit at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Benoit, Dr. Rahel Melita, Dr. Pierce, and nurses Raye, Bernie and Kris for their loving care, attention, and support.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations may be made in Cliff’s memory to Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (ICU Department), 3942 50A Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4N 4E7 or at www.rdrhfoundation.com.
