James "Jim" Douglas MacDonald

November 17th, 2018

Our hearts were breaking while we held Jim as he passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018.  In a Private Graveside Service, Jim was laid to rest surrounded by his beloved wife, Marilyn (of 46 years); children, Linette Miller and Aaron; grandsons, Matthew and Eric Miller; son-in-law, Cory; and several dear friends.  Also left to mourn are grandsons, Mason, Nixon and Ronan MacDonald (children of Aaron); and many other relatives and friends.  Jim was predeceased by his mom, Hazel Jean in 1961; dad, Angus James in 1986; and sister, Mary in 2009. Jim was born in Grande Prairie April 14, 1943.  After 10 years in the Lake Saskatoon district, his family moved to Grande Prairie.  He graduated from Grande Prairie High school, then obtained his electrician's ticket while working at Canfor Plywood and Proctor & Gamble.  In 1979, Jim was hired by Alberta Gas Ethylene and moved his family to Red Deer.  He spent the last 5 years of his working life doing the job he loved the best, running his own company. Jim loved sports, including ball and basketball while in school but truly loved being involved with his children's sports. He spent many years as manager of Aaron's AAA hockey teams and several years organizing the Legion's PeeWee tournaments, one of which involved 52 teams.  After his children left home, Jim discovered he loved to travel with Marilyn, their children and their friends.  Some of the special trips included the Shangololo train down the center of Africa, a cruise up the Amazon river and trips to the Far East, Fiji, Australia and Antarctica.  When not traveling, Jim loved having coffee with his buddies and spending the summers at Moyie Lake, BC. Jim survived his battle with cancer for 17 years.  He will always be remembered as a loving, honorable man whose greatest love was his family.
