SIM, Derek Alexander
Derek Alexander Sim passed away suddenly at home in the early morning hours on Friday, January 19, 2018. He will be remembered as a man who was very family oriented and very social. He could meet and talk to anyone of any age and immediately establish a bond of friendship. His nature was helping. Derek loved his dog, was a tremendous fly fisherman, thrived on camping and coffee. He suffered from an addiction, but he couldn’t break free. Derek will be sadly missed by his parents, Darryl and Diane Sim; sister, Natasha Sim; her sons, Austin and Joseph; sister, Sheena Pike (Trevor Bridge) and their son, Tayvian and daughters, Nakita, Kensli and Trevor’s daughter, Annabelle as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of a Funeral Service the immediate family will be having a special Celebration of Derek’s Life at a later date.

Dear Darryl & Diane, I met Derek in hospital in 2016. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Those bright blue eyes and wonderful personality! I must have met him as a little boy because I lived at 1 Munro Cres. and you were both at a birthday party for Ally Hansen many, many years back that my daughter, Christine Grandy, and I attended. Diane and Darryl and family; Tim and I were so sad to read of Derek's passing. We remember the year that him and Kirk played hockey together and sitting with you guys cheering them on!! I remember you bringing Austin to the games and he was pretty little!!! Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks.
My heart breaks for all of you! I don’t have the right words but I wanted you to know that my heart and my thoughts are with you through this very difficult time! I had the pleasure of hanging out with Derek a few times back in 2004. He had the greatest laugh and the biggest heart! He will be missed!
We are so sorry to hear about Derrick’s passing. I remember him from the hockey team that both he and Mike played on. He always had big smile and was so social. Our deepest condolences to Darryl and Diane and family. This is a heartache that no one should bear alone. Gerry, Michael and Carson Tofin
Derek was larger than life, it seems hard to believe that an addiction could get the best of him. He treated friends like family and woe to those who dared cross people he cared about. I look back and feel like I should have done more to help him. He was the type of guy you could call in the worst of times and he would be there. If there's anyone reading this that knew him when I did, look around. Reach out to those in need and help where you can. Maybe if we were as tough as Derek was we wouldn't be here today.
