BUKVA, Menyhért Louis Vincent
Jan. 31, 1931 – Feb. 28, 2019
Menyhért "Maynard" Bukva passed away in Red Deer on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the age of 88. He will be remembered by his surviving children, Maynard (Gail) Bukva, Vince (Margaret) Bukva, Patricia Bukva; step-daughter, Jackie (Harvey) Christie; and grandchildren, Pam (Mike), Stephanie (Brandon), Brendon (Julie), Ben, Jennifer (Jade), Brittny, Nathaniel, Conner, Jesse, and 13 great-grandchildren. Menyhért was predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Clara Nichols; and his daughter, Baby Girl Bukva.
Menyhért was born in Endrőd, Hungary to Erzsébet Pardi and Menyhért Bukva. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 amidst political unrest in his home country. His native country always held a special place in his heart, and he was very proud of his heritage. He particularly enjoyed cooking, eating, and sharing Hungarian cuisine. Menyhért initially settled in Saskatoon where he married and had four children. He moved to Red Deer with his surviving children in 1963 where he later met his wife Clara. He was passionate about soccer, coached his son’s team, and loved to attend his grandchildren’s games. He also loved to explore and go camping in his new country with Clara and his family. In his retirement he was an avid curler and enjoyed watching local sporting events. Menyhért made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A Memorial Tea will be held at St. Leonard’s on The Hill Anglican Church, 4241 – 44 Street, Red Deer, AB on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. We would like to extend a thank you to all the staff at Villa Maria who helped to care for him.
Messages:
Our deepest condolences. We attended St. Leonard’s-on-the-Hill Anglican Church services with Maynard in his later years. He always had a friendly greeting for everyone at church, and was missed this past year and a half when he was in the hospital and at Villa Marie. Maynard had many interesting stories from his youth in Hungary and his life in Canada. Roberta visited with him as a volunteer at the hospital over many months. While there, Maynard especially enjoyed attending chapel services and sing-a-long's, and having tea in Moose Cottage. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
So sorry for your loss, Maynard was such a unique character, I always enjoyed our chats at the curling rink! He had such an amazing perspective of the world and a great sense of humour. He will be deeply missed and always remembered!
Our deepest condolences to the family
Very sorry for your loss! Big hugs to you all!
Maynard was my neighbour. When I moved into my home he was sure to give me the history of the place. He was such a friendly guy and loved feeding all the little critters and birds that lived in the neighbourhood. My condolences to Maynard's family and friends. RIP Maynard.

A memory of Maynard . On the day Wayne and I got married, we decorated Maynards car and he drove us all over Weekes honking the horn.He always called Mabel Nabob. Rest in peace Maynard.
My condolences to you all in this time of sorrow and loss of Maynard. There will always be a special place in my heart in memory of Maynard. Thank you Maynard jr. and Vince for the stories and all the laughter shared while visiting your dad. You all are in my thoughts and take care.
My Condolences to you all. I am a member of St. Leonard's. After Church one morning I drove him down town and he really appreciated it. He told every one I was the lady who drove him down town. I have missed him at church and visiting him when he was in the hospital and at Villa Marie. He was always cheerful and had lots of stories tell of his home land and love of his family.
