Hughina "Ena" Cameron Campbell
March 26th, 2019
On March 26, 2019 Ena Campbell passed away peacefully at the age of 97 in Lacombe, Alberta. Ena is survived by her son, Delton; and daughter, Nancy (Rick); as well as five grandchildren, Madeline, Duncan, Mackenzie, Patrick and Andrew; two great grandchildren, Ebony and Tyson; her cousin, Louise, and many other cherished family members. Ena was born in Peavine in 1921 and grew up with her mother, Isabella, father, Ninian, and siblings, Malcolm and Anne. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Ena became a teacher, eventually finding her place teaching first graders in Sherwood Park where she taught for 19 years. Ena’s positivity and bright personality attracted people throughout her life including her husband of 59 years, Roy Campbell (who also noted her winning smile). Roy and Ena were married in Edmonton in 1950 before moving into a house they built in Sherwood park. This beautiful home became the backdrop to countless cherished family events, as well as the backdrop to many of Ena’s famous watercolor paintings. These watercolors featuring lilies, peonies, and pansies have found their way onto many walls, showing just how many people Ena touched in her life.
We are so grateful for the gentle, compassionate care Ena was given by the staff at Royal Oak Village and by Dr.Olivier.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ena Campbell's name would be appreciated to one of Ena’s preferred charities, the United Way. Donations can be made online – https://www.myunitedway.ca/ – or sent to United Way of The Alberta Capital Region, 15132 Stony Plan Road Edmonton, AB, T5P 3Y3.Messages:
Nancy and family we are so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was such a wonderful and classy lady and we always enjoyed visiting with her. Really was hoping to visit her again with some of her friends from the park sometime in the spring when it was suppose to warm up but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Will never forget that your grandmother was Arnie's mom's teacher many years ago. May it help to know that others share your sorrow. May she rest in peace.
Hello, I was sorry to read of Ena's passing in the Edmonton Journal. When I worked for Strathcona County in the 80's, I met Ena at some of the various art gatherings in the County. One of her paintings was purchased in the very first year of Strathcona County's art collection in 1987. It still hangs in a meeting room in County Hall. Barb Chapman
We were so sorry to learn of your Mom’s passing. She certainly exemplified all the good qualities one should strive for in one’s life. Several months ago, Gladys Cannan told me she had had a young family member with language / reading problems. When your mother found out about him, she said “I’ll teach him” - and she did! I met him a couple of years ago, and you would never know there had been any problem! Yet another life your mother changed.
