Robert "Bob" Craig
February 15th, 2021
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert (Bob) Cameron Craig, who passed away peacefully at home in Alix, AB on Monday, February 15, 2021.
Robert was born October 17, 1942 in Calgary, AB to Cameron and Anne (Annie) Craig, sisters Irene, Doris and Barbara.
Bob’s childhood was largely spent in Calgary (Bowness) where so many wonderful memories of his parents and siblings were born also. Unfortunately Bob was predeceased by his father, Cameron, early in life. Thankfully, he had many more years with his mother, Annie, before her passing.
As a young adult, Bob graduated high school and shortly thereafter pursued an Electrical apprenticeship. His dedication to learning, hard work, sacrifice, and commitment guided his work career, and made him many valued friends, through over 40 years until his retirement. 20 of those years he shared with Karen Craig, as husband and father, primarily in Alix, AB. Bob also valued his relationships with Karen’s family. Now predeceased are Karen’s grandfather, James (Jim) Rutherford, his father-in law, Bruce MacDonald, and brother-in-law, Keith MacDonald. Bob is survived and remembered fondly by both Karen and his brother-in-law, David MacDonald.
Through all his years, he was loving family man whose wisdom, morality, integrity and honor guided his life and blessed all those around him. Bob had four children, Holly, Robert, Sandi and Jenifer, all of whom had a very special place in his heart. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Alex, Robert (Bo), Keith and Craig.
Sadly, Bob was predeceased by his sisters Doris (Dot) and Barb. One of Bob’s most cherished relationships all his life was with his sister, Irene, and her late husband Ken, and their daughters. They had a special and rare bond.
Upon retirement, Bob followed his passion of sailing, cruises and travel with his loving companion Linda. Together, they spent several happy years completing their dream of a lakeside cabin property built together on a foundation of love and commitment.
Anyone who got to know Bob at all, knew that he was a special man. His commitment as a father, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather was based on unconditional love to all those close to his heart. His greatest joy was found in spending quality time visiting, playing games, camping, fishing, and sharing his gentle loving nature with to all those around him.
Through all of his years, his guidance, consistency, principles, love and strength were forever present in all his relationships, and were relied upon heavily. These will not be forgotten, but instead will continue to guide us all through difficult times, and the loving memories created will stay with us forever.
Due to Covid constraints, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please leave a message below to the family, including an email address if possible, and we will be sure to reach out with the details of the formal service as soon as is possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alix Seniors Drop-in Centre if you wish, as this was a significant focus of his charitable heart and fond gathering place for him for many years; PO Box 659, Alix, AB, T0C 0B0.
Messages:
Bob’s passing leaves a huge whole in our lives - he was my first love, my husband, father of my children and cherished friend both during our marriage and since. His love and pride in our son and daughter and their four children knew no bonds and throughout all the years we shared many wonderful moments with all of them. He will always be missed and remembered with love and respect. I know he will continue to watch over them and the legacy of love and values he instilled will carry on through them - we are all better people for having him in our lives. Rest In Peace, Bob - Karen
