GIBBONS, Gerald (Gerry) Vincent
May 6, 1948 – February 17, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerry Gibbons on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Gerry will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his family. He was a loving, caring and compassionate husband to his best friend, and wife of 44 years, Pauline. Gerry was the best father his sons, Vince (Aimee) and John (Lindsay), could have ever asked for. His kindness, even temperament and focus on his children gave them a life they will forever be thankful for. He was cherished as “Papa” Gerry by Layla, Liam, Oscar, Arwyn and Bronson; as well as his many nephews, and nieces he made a priority throughout his life. His brothers, Ed (Carol), John and Bill, as well as his many brothers and sisters in-law are all saddened immensely by his passing.
Gerry was born in Ottawa, Ontario and was pre-deceased by his parents, Mary and Vincent Gibbons. He was an active person throughout his life with watersports, cross country skiing, and hiking drawing him to life in the mountains in his 20’s. His sense of adventure brought him out West where he met his wife and started his family. Gerry was proud of his communities and through efforts on town council, volunteering and his work in the Civil Service made sure to leave them better than he found them. He travelled throughout his life, loved camping and being outdoors but never took a trip without his family as he loved to share the experiences and memories. He had a love of music with Stompin Tom, Leonard Cohen and the Eagles as a couple of top hits. The music he enjoyed the most though was watching John’s band play in various pubs and bars around Central Alberta, enjoying a dance with his wife and a beer with his boys. He was a competitive swimmer, aspiring artist, and all around good guy. Even in the hardest parts of his disease he had a kind smile and a calmness that made him a pleasure to be around. He was quick to listen and slow to speak which made him an easy person to get along with. Gerry was a very thoughtful, generous and well-spoken man with a great sense of humor and a laugh that came from his soul. He will be deeply missed.
Please join us virtually for a Celebration of Gerry’s Life on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2:00pm Mountain time. The website below will be have a live stream of the event that can be accessed by either a click on their facebook page or click on the picture of Gerry which will appear about 15 minutes before the event.

Lovely service. Vince , your dad would of been proud of you! So enjoyed my time with your dad and the many hours of colouring, playing games and walks with him and Lacy. Some things are not fair in this life but you all did a great job of making the best of it. Love you.

We will definitely watch the service on Friday and our thoughts and prayers will be with you all. Please keep in touch.
My sincere condolences to Pauline, Vince, John & families, as well as Gerry’s brother John. I met Gerry & Pauline many years ago in Jasper where Gerry was managing the Voyager Restaurant. It was in Jasper that they met, fell in love & moved forward in life as loving, joyful & loyal partners. Gerry always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, a quick wit, a sense of direction in life and made people feel welcome and comfortable with his warmth. He was a great role model. I will always remember him. ‘Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.’ Emily Dickinson
