FOUNTAIN, Joy Maureen

June 26, 1947 – February 28, 2022

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Joy. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, dear friend to many and soul mate of her husband of over 40 years, Bing Fountain.

Joy was born on June 26, 1947 in Calgary, AB. Joy spent her life in service to her family and to others. She worked side by side with Bing in their family businesses. She was a tireless volunteer for her children’s softball teams from Bankview to Acadia. Joy’s essence was love. She was generous, full of grace, kind, thoughtful, incredibly hard-working, and she was joy, in every respect. She was fascinated by detail and all the beauty found there – in the birds, flowers, animals of every description, Christmas gift wrapping and artful tags, her extraordinary craft creations, and in all of the things everywhere in nature, She could make anything grow. She loved, as Bing would say, “playing in the dirt” and it showed. Her garden is full of flowers and trees, many grown lovingly from seed and were always the subject of admiration for the community. She also has an wonderful “eye” for beautiful photography. Unlike so many of us, she did perceive all the detail, especially in living beings and her intuition gave her empathy that was boundless and served so many in small and extraordinary ways. Joy was special in every way, and her angelic way will be deeply missed.

Joy was predeceased by her parents, Rod and Doris Ball. She is survived by her husband Bing, daughter Cindy and her husband Lane Ellis and her two children Kayla (Brad) and Colby in Calgary; her son Todd and his wife Christina and their two daughters Katarina in Calgary and Cassandra (John) in Manchester, England; grandson, Travis Graystone and great grandson, Corbin; granddaughter, Stephanie Graystone and great grandsons, Kane and Owen; her daughter Ginny and her husband Matt Chapman and their daughters Taylor (Max) and Ashley in Calgary; her sister Jennifer LaBelle and family; brother Rod (Valerie) Ball and family; her mother-in-law Evelyn Fountain and sister-in-law Sherri Fountain and family of Calgary.

In Joy’s fashion of informality and getting to the heart of the matter, family and friends will gather at their home when spring turns to summer and her life will be celebrated in the sun on a weekened afternoon. Flowers gratefully declined, friends so wishing may make donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or any charity of your choice.

Messages:

Our deepest sympathies to you Taylor, Ginny and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in those difficult times.

Deepest condolences to you Bing and to your entire family. I hope that in every flower you see, every glimpse of sunshine, every bird in the sky and every moment with your family and friends, the treasured memories of happiness in your life together will support you in your grief.

Our Calgary Flames seat mates, Bing & Joy. Joy was blast, we had so much fun, very passionate about her team, especially when she thought they weren't trying hard enough. A incredibly special lady who always made an effort at making all of us feel welcome when we visited socially, at the hockey drafts or at every game. A very talented and generous person that we will miss very dearly. Bing, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thanks for your friendship and Thanks Joy for sharing your life with us. We miss you!

our deepest sympathy to you and your family. No matter how many words are said nothing and no one can fill the void in your hearts, remember her and her smile will be missed around our Resort and the joy she spread .. Gary and Cecilia Tasker

To Bing and family: I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Joy. We didn’t chat much and if we did it was through Facebook. She was a super kind lady with a heart of gold. Always had something nice to say to anyone. She will be missed. Rest easy Joy

It is with great sadness that we learned of Joy’s passing. Our sincere condolences to you, Bing, and the rest of the family. Her legacy will live on.

Sending loving thoughts and prayers to you all! I am shocked to hear of her sudden passing. Cherish all your loving memories and know that she is always with you, watching over you everyday. Joy may you be at peace... RIP Resting in Paradise Sherry Kelly

Grandma Joy will be greatly missed and always in our hearts! I will always remember our craft projects and “famous” Christmas cookie baking during my years under her care before and after school (or in the summers). There are also so many flowers that will make me think of Grandma Joy. Every time I see one of her favourites I will think of her. Rest well Grandma. We love you xoxo

Bing and family; our sincere condolences on your loss of Joy. We'll remember Joy for her constant smile, always happy to host everyone, always with quiet contentment. It was a pleasure to see Joy light up if she was asked about any of her vast variety of plants, humbly demonstrating her vast knowledge of all flora and all the creatures that loved them too; happily encouraging some of those creatures and how to discourage others. Wishing you all peace and strength. Brad & Sharon Harris

Murray and I were blessed to spend a summer next to Joy and Bing’s beautiful home and garden! We loved seeing her each day work in her garden and the birds loved her feeders in all seasons. We loved her kind quiet nature and was always willing to help us! Rest easy Joy ❤️

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family, Bing. You and Joy were the first to welcome us into our new home here at the lake. We appreciated Joy's quiet, gentle, and kind spirit very much. May God comfort you today and in the days ahead as you grieve the passing of your dear loved one. Bob and Karen

It's with a heavy heart and condolences for the loss of someone you loved and the person you were blessed to have the time you had with her. I remember introducing you and you got heavily involved in coaching and hear you were secretly wanting to be close to Joy. Before I knew it her family became your family whick became our family. I always love and respected Joy, her intuition, her laugh and most of all for the heart she had for every living thing. I believe she will always be with us in memories and in our hearts. Time won't change the fact she is gone only the pain will lesson and let the sun shine once again. I love you Bing if you need anything you know how to reach me. Be safe.

Our deepest condolences, you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
