January 4th, 2017

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Shirley passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Pioneer Village in Regina. Left to celebrate her life are her husband Leo; daughters Ginny (Jose) and Julie (Peter); grandchildren Bryan, Miguel, Ixchel, Nicte, Jayden, Bricen, and Ryse; brother Bob (Jean); sisters Roberta (Arnie), Gail (Don), and Joan (Eric). Shirley was predeceased by her parents Robert and Phyllis Read and son Leo Lane Jr.

Shirley was born on November 6, 1946 in Regina, SK. She grew up in Regina and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to marry Leo, who was in the Navy. After 10 years they moved back to Regina with three children. Shirley enjoyed renovating the 4 homes they shared over the years, as well as entertaining friends, and participating in church life at St. Mary’s Church.

Shirley developed early onset dementia and spent the last 10 years of her life at Pioneer Village. We are thankful to the staff at Pioneer Village for caring for Shirley so many years. A huge heart and selfless soul has left us but we are thankful for the time we had. You will forever be in our hearts Mom.

Family prayers will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 7:00 pm at 3037 Retallack St., Regina, SK. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Montague St. & 15th Ave., Regina, SK.

Messages:

Beautiful inside and out and a ton of fun. That is how I remember Shirley when she was the Pied Piper of Lakefront. The Lanes were neighbours and friends. Shirley supervised my sister and I at lunch and after school. It was great fun and wherever Shirley was there was always kids and laughter.

My heart was sadden to hear of cousin Shirley's passing. She had a wonderful smile and a very giving nature. Hugs to Leo and all her family. She is gone only in body, she is still around you all

Leo, our sincere condolences to you and your family in this difficult time.

Leo and family I was so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing and count myself fortunate to have known her. I wish you comfort and strength in this difficult time.

Shirley and Leo were a great pair together, always leading the way to the dance floor in the early days of the Condors RFC & the RRU functions . Sincere condolences for the family loss ! Bill & Maria Folk and Family

Leo, my condolences to you and all your family. I know the past few years have been challenging. Cheers mate, Bruiser

I was so sorry to read of Shirley's passing. I worked with her in the 90's at Health Canada and always enjoyed her company. My condolences to Shirley's family.

To Leo, your family and the Read Family. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Shirley. I was unaware of her illness as I lost track of her after I retired from Indian Affairs where I worked with Shirley. I have known her and her sisters since childhood. Shirley was always full of energy and always had a beautiful smile on her face whenever I saw her. We had many great chats at work and I will remember her always. Laraine (Kaad) Clayton

We knew Shirley and Leo as a very young couple who built through the co-op in our area. She was such a unique individual.I can picture her still, in her blue jeans, kid hoisted on shoulders, followed by a dog or three, as carefree as one could be.Alas, that time has passed and we are slowly passing to the next generation. Her Right of Passage has been achieved so she can rest easy with her Savior.

So sorry for you loss. She was the kindness and most wonderful person I have ever known. R.I.P. my friend.

Dear Leo and family: Our sincere condolences on the passing of Shirley.

To Leo, Ginny, Julie, Bryan, and rest of Shirley's family. Our deepest condolences to all of you. May it be comforting to know that we are thinking about you, and wish you comfort, and healing at this time, and in the future. I will always remember Shirley for her loving spirit for whoever entered her home, and the hostest with the mostest !!!! Not to mention the widest grin meeting you at the door. She always made you feel at home. She loved offering whatever she can put together in a flash from her kitchen.....Great memories to last a lifetime. Rest in peace Shirley....and peace to your family....Love Flora, Paul, Bryce, Patricia, Jacob, and the rest of the Duck Bay family !!!!!!!

My sincerely condolences to you Leo and your family. Shirley was a beautiful person and a positive soul.
