Nelson Riley Markwart

April 13th, 2017

Nelson Riley Markwart, dearly beloved son,   brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend passed away after a long brave battle Thursday, April 13, 2017.  Nelson is predeceased by his brother Justin Alexander Markwart.

Nelson is survived by his mother Keri Markwart (Ed Leader), His father Kevin Markwart.  His brothers Dale Markwart (Ingrid Van de Wiele), and Jordan Markwart (Kiea Stucki).  His sister Melissa Markwart (Bryce Billingsley).

Grandparents, Henry and Anne Schellenberg, and Leonard and Jenny Markwart

Aunts and Uncles,  Jerry (Teresa) Schellenberg,  Bob (Jan) Schellenberg,  Steve (Kellie) Schellenberg,  Kelly (Kim) Markwart,  Pat (Dayna) Markwart and  Tim Markwart.

And also his cousins,  Darrien Roster,  Nathaniel Schellenberg,  Colton Markwart,  Jamie Markwart,  Hayden Markwart and Anna Markwart.

As well as numerous friends and medical staff all over.

Nelson was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba quite impatient to get out in the world.  He lived most of his life in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.  Nelson was an honor roll student, teaching most of his smarts to his siblings.  Embarrassing enough quite a few to his parents.  He drilled his siblings the definition of DNA.  Nelson struggled his whole life with a body that just wouldn't work, but he made the best of it and never complained.  He was one to always have a sense of humor and keep medical staff on their toes.  The staff at the Kindersley hospital one time threatened to paint his toe nails pink unless he quit pushing the busser for help, well next thing I know he is calling home asking for nail polish remover.

Nelson was able to graduate in 2010, and we couldn't have been prouder, receiving a standing ovation as he accepted his diploma.  Nelson's love for simpsons, family guy and pokemon kept him going through some very rough spots.  Nelson will be remembered by every person he met, he was just that personable.  He had a smile that would melt absolutely anyone, and it did get a few nurses falling in love with him.  He was not a fan of any doctor but they loved him just the same.

Nelson is beyond a shadow of a doubt my hero, and always will be.  Someone to base my own life upon.  Live, love and laugh, not much else matters……

Love you more then life itself baby boy, rest in peace, you will always forever be in my heart and on my mind.

Love, Mom

Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Chapel, 2180 - 23rd Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan.

Messages:

Sending My condolences to you and the family Momma K, Nelson will forever be in my heart❤️ Rest in paradise Nels! I love you❤️

My deepest sympathies to you Keri and your family. Nelson was a young man with great character who I remember fondly. I will never forget when thousands of people prayed for him at YC Alberta when his heart transplant and progress were announced. Our Kindersley group was so excited to hear how he was doing and to have so many praying for him like we were. I remember him from our joint youth nights and how excited he was to participate in the events....It was amazing how fast he could eat soda crackers in one relay we did. Lol. I also had the privilege of working with him a bit when he was in high school. Every time he had me laughing. What a sense of humour he had!! One time he asked me to google "brain transplants"...when I asked if he was serious he sure laughed so I think he wanted to see my reaction...we googled it anyway. Lol. My prayers and condolences. God Bless and hold you.

I'll always remember the years Nelson attended Westberry School and what a very special young man he was!!!!! My thoughts and prayers are with all his family!! RIP Nelson!!!

My condolences and thoughts to you and your family Keri. He was simply too good for this world.

So very sorry to hear of Nelson's passing. I had the privilege to know him for a short time, while attending the same elementary and high school, and then while working as a care aide in Kindersley. He had such a bright smile and positive attitude that could not be matched. May you and your family find strength in each other during this difficult time ❤

I had the pleasure of being Nelsons EA in grade 7... Always full of smiles and smarts unless we made him use a pencil. Nelson was a whiz kid no question about that. Nelson and I had a lot of heart to heart talks. My heart is so sad for you Keri and family. Life is unfair!!! Praying Nelson is in a beautiful place ❤️❤️❤️

Thoughts and Prayers to you and your family.

I have very fond memories of Nelson in Grade 3 at Westberry School. He was an exceptional young man at a very early age. My thoughts are with your familly at this difficult time.

What a special person he was!! I was privileged to be one of the Kindersley Hospital Staff that spent a lot of time with Nelson. He made us laugh, cry, and made us realize that how special life is. He had a great sense of humour, and full of optimism although life had dealt him a less than perfect hand!! I was blessed to play such a small part in his short life.

I had the pleasure to teach Nelson. I have many fond memories of his great sense of humour! You kept us on our toes Nelson! RIP!

Nelson was a little light of joy and intelligence. I loved his amazingly positive attitude and determination to live a fulfilling life in spite of his illness. I will always remember him with a smile. My heart goes out to all of you.
