Orest Eugene Hadubiak
September 27th, 1941 ~ August 28th, 2019
On August 28, 2019, Orest Hadubiak, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 77.
Orest was born on September 27, 1941 in Canora, Saskatchewan to Peter and Katherine (Malowany) Hadubiak. As a young man, he attended Monastyr School and Buchanan High School.
On April 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Mavis Dziaduck, of Tiny, Saskatchewan. Their marriage took place at St. Peter and Paul’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora, Saskatchewan. Orest and Eleanor first resided at a teacherage at Monastyr School (10 miles north of Buchanan) where Eleanor was teaching Grades 1 to 8. Orest made the daily commute to work at the Macleods Store in Canora.
They started their family and had three sons, Dwayne, Gregory, and Conrad in Canora. In 1966, the family moved to Gorlitz where Eleanor taught Grades 1 to 6. Orest was a proud dad involved in his children’s sports, such as minor hockey, figure skating, fishing, and minor baseball.
In 1968, Orest and Eleanor and their family moved back to Canora. Orest was an assistant manager at Macleods until 1975. At that time, he became the manager at Acklands in Canora and later a stock controller at Acklands in Yorkton. Due to illness, he went into early retirement in 1981. Orest and Eleanor made many great friendships in Canora, but had decided to make their way to Regina in December of 1998.
Orest had a new chance at life on December 20, 2002, when he had a heart transplant procedure in Edmonton, Alberta. He had many more years to watch his children grow into the people they are today, more years to make lasting friendships in the community, and more years to chase his grandchildren around the yard. Orest became a driving force behind the success of the Prairie Hearts Transplant Group, lending his support and experience to all those who came after him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine Hadubiak, son Dwayne, daughter-in-law Janice, brothers Terry, Nicholas, Lawrence, sister Sophie (Mike), father- and mother-in-law Mike and Olive Dziaduck.
If anyone knew Orest, they knew he was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He would make sure to tune in to every game, geared up in team colours, whether they were winning or not. Orest was the type of person that knew everyone’s phone number by heart, even if he hadn’t called the number in years. He was known for his quick wit, compassionate heart, and baby blue eyes.
Orest is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years Eleanor, son Gregory (Heidi) of Edmonton, son Conrad (Susan) of Regina, his adoring grandchildren Stephanie (Brian Lunde), Mark, Christopher, McKenzie, Kennedy, and Rylee, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and extended family throughout the province.
Prayers for Orest will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Athanasius with Fathers Vasyl Tymishak and Andrei Kachur officiating. For those wishing to do so, memorial donations may be made to Stars Foundation (Hangar 21, 2475 Airport Road, Saskatoon, SK) or the St. Athanasius Building Fund (55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina, SK).
