It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom Maria. Mom passed away peacefully at Silver Heights Special Care Home, Raymore, SK on July 23, 2021 with family by her side.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Steve, grandson Elliot Vass, son-in-law Bob Patterson, her brother Leo Ooms and brother-in-law Orville Ackerman. She is survived by her daughters  Darcy Patterson (Terry), Shelley Vass (Carey), and Sandra (Terry) Fazakas; grandchildren Skylar Patterson, Tristin Patterson, Matthew Vass (Rachel), Lyndon Vass, Chelsea (Brad) Kelly, Courtlyn Fazakas (Brett), Brayden (Becky) Fazakas, and Brooklyn Fazakas (Drew); great-grandchildren Brandt, Gracie and Hallie; her brothers Adrie (Irene) Ooms, Chris (Adelle) Ooms, and Rienus (Maureen) Ooms; her sisters Adrianna (Doug) Turner, Jackie Bart-Mitchell, Nelly (Pat) Joa, Ellie Ackerman, Corry (Dave) Deptuck, and Terri Knox (Brad).

Mom was born May 5, 1942 in Hoogerheide, Holland. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. In 1959 she moved to Lestock, SK and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Nurses Aid. She also met our Dad, Steve. They were married in 1962 and remained in Lestock most of their lives where they raised three daughters. Mom was eventually employed by Canada Post where she worked for 34 years before retiring in 2004. More than anything else, Mom loved spending time with family. She will always be remembered for her big breakfasts after church, her Easter Egg Hunts, her freshly baked buns and for bringing the gravy just as everyone finished their meal. In later years as Dad’s health began to fail, Mom devoted herself to caring for him. In 2014 they moved to Regina, SK where she continued to look after Dad with help from family. Sadly, Mom’s health began to fail as well, and it was no longer possible for them to remain in their home. They moved to Raymore and resided at the Silver Heights Special Care Home with the wonderful staff there looking after them.

Like branches on a tree, our family has grown in new and different directions over the years, but our roots will remain as one through our Mom who was and always will be the heart and soul of this family. After a hard year, we take comfort knowing that Mom and Dad are back together once again.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Raymore, SK. A private family interment will be held in Lestock Cemetery, Lestock, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Raymore Silver Heights Special Care Home.
